Preston & Steve vs Kidd Chris

I caught a few minutes of Kidd Chris on the way home from work today. He was talking about taking over Roth's spot next week while Roth is on vacation. He said he wants to bring back the old radio wars with Preston and Steve. He's planning on calling the MMR listener lines, and maybe going over to Bala to broadcast from outside MMR or something. It sounds a lot like the stuff Stern did to DeBella back when the Zoo was big and Stern was the new guy on the block.

Kidd's crew were doing a lot of speculating about Roth's vacation, ALMOST alluding to it being permanent. I do not listen to Kidd Chris regularly, so I'm not sure if the whole thing was a joke, or if he really is doing the morning slot next week.

Anything is better than DLR

Kidd is a hack though there is nothing ground breaking going on during that show. Preston and Steve are just ok. Its really Sad that there is a reference to Stern VS DeBella as the last intresting radio battle to happen

I don't think it wise for Kidd Chris to try and start a war between
himself and Preston and Steve. They will make him look like an ass...

I think the reason Stern did so well taunting Debella was because
his show was so corny back then..and his ego was obvious.
Kidd Chris sounds like another cheap imitation of Stern.

I agree. And the rating speak for themselves. Preston and Steve even beat Howard in his last book 18-34.

'YSP should put Barsky in morning.

I don't know..... what I hear, Chris is vicious, he has nothing to lose. He might not win but lets face it P&S are magnificently average and are an easy target for Chris. Think of it as a suicide bomber. He could pound on them for a week and they have no choice but to take it. Much like "baldy... baldy..." they are sitting ducks to someone like Chris.
If I were Chris I would be offering $500 bucks for the MMR hotline.. an intern would turn.

If Kiddy Chris wants to start a Radio War...shouldn't he first BE a WARRIOR?

I wouldn't under estimate the strong talent and quick wit of Steve Morrison.
I don't think he would take much of pounding from anyone. Especially a
Stern Wannabee like Chris..

$500 for the MMR hotline would not be money well spent as the station could
sue Chris for harrassing calls.... They would just change the number anyway
and fire the intern.

When Stern went after Debella..he knew his weaknesses.
I don't see much weakness with P and S show..
I see Chris pretty much pissing in the wind by copying Stern's act.

Not to mention, DeBella had become complacent and cocky, openly stating that a show from another city wouldn't be able to touch the Zoo. P & S and crew were rated #1 in the mornings last book (over Stern also), and are on top of their game and hungry to stay on top.

I agree with that! Steve has the fastest brain that I have ever heard and it doesn't have an off switch.

You are probably right. I said Chris might not win. BUT
He is juvenilia and 18-34, might be into it, if Preston and Steve even mention him.
Does he (and YSP) have the top rock station in town looking over there shoulder? (already??)
Can he break there concentration and there loyalty if he starts offering $500 for the hotline?
If there was nothing to him, everybody would be saying the best of David Lee Roth is their best move. Also
P&S always want to be "the good guys". That doesn't always fly with young males.
There weakness, off the top of my head, very similar morning show routine i.e. the bizarro files... same time everyday. A lot of reading and more structure then flow. It is a good morning show. It is not a GREAT morning show. All Chris has to be is a monkey wrench.
Debella had better numbers and Stern was on the top of his game back then. Radio as a whole was much more important and better programmed with better people. So yes in the big picture I guess you are right, who cares!

You know as I came back and read this post I realized the position I have put myself in. The fact of the matter is unlike the Stern/Debella encounters, this is far from note worthy on either side. You want great radio today, play a great song. Turn me on to something. TALK IS CHEAP in every sense of the words! Kids are downloading music not listening to megalomaniac radio hosts who offer little and plunder what is left of this medium. I am sure there are Greater Media and Infinity people reading this.... WAKE UP !
thanks you, now i am off to go mumble around old city begging for loose change.

Re: What does Chris have to lose?

His dignity? The entire name of the game is gaining attention, no?

Oh,he'll gain attention but not the kind that would help his ratings.
Could hurt.. It just seems foolish unless he's got masochistic tendencies. :)

Doesn't he have a standing job offer from Stern? If he bombs, he won't be unemployed for long. I don't see how it can hurt.

I never heard of a standing job offer from Stern.. it may be true..
I don't think it will hurt Chris' chances for future employment.
I don't see a confrontation with P and S helping his ratings in the Philly market.
I just think he would make an ass of himself...but that's my opinion.

He has said on air a few times that if Stern were to ever make an offer that he would be interested in going to satellite.
