Pretty Big Hip Hop trend in Hamptons-Riverhead

Hot 93.7 from Hartford was #3 in the Hamptons Riverhead book,
Blaze 101.7 was 4th, Hot 97 (the only NYC fm which made the trend)was also on the list (will leave out the #'s due to the copyright issues, but you know where to find them)
Edited by Tim J on 08/23/05 06:27 AM.

The Hamptonhead book is so small as to be nearly worthless. Stations go up and down with wild swings because of the low sampling #s.

> As I predicted the rise of Mix 102.7 in NYC a year ago, I also predicted that Blaze would own the East End this summer, also almost a year ago; and yes, the book does mean something, or else there wouldn't be a book, and no one would be paying attention/discussing it.

But you would be even more correct to say that "oldies in mono" would rule the East End this summer. Wasn't WLNG #1 in the Riverhamptons book this trend?

And honestly, look at this book from trend to trend...the numbers jump all over the place. I don't think any station has a 100+% gain of its audience in one trend, then loses all of that gain in the next trend, and so on.

> It happens out east, because of the seasonal population shift: While WLNG rules like WALK rules, the 'youth" population in the spring/summer accounts for the embrace of hip hop, just as Hot 97 and Power 105 in NY are right behind Lite FM.When the summer-youth season ends, so does the hip hop trend, but by then , they may have built a more steadfast audience.

But we see these types of fluctuations year-round, even from trend to trend in the winter months. Additionally, would many of the people going out east have permanent addresses/listed phone numbers? Many probably don't, in which case, probably means they don't receive the Arbitron diaries either. Correct me if I'm wrong....
