Price is Right on twice a day in Houston...why?

It's temporary, till the new Let's Make a Deal debuts. You only have to put up with double-TPIR this week and next. For some reason, CBS couldn't have either 2 more weeks of current Guiding Light eps (or best-of reruns), or start LMAD 2 weeks sooner (guess it wasn't ready yet).

Apparently, I wished KHOU (Channel 11) would up its make to carry Dr. Phil since KPRC has just dumped him for Dr. OZ. Somebody's gotta act real fast to carry Dr. Phil because Dr Phil has been a no-show to Houston TV. Therefore, you might probably see a lot of CBS stations-Including KHOU-dropping "Let's Make A Deal" for more Local/Syndicated programming

Syndicated programing is expen$$$ive. Many stations don't think the cost is justified, therefore some shows aren't going to be on in certain markets, unless the syndicator drastically drops the price. In case you haven't noticed, the economy sucks, and broadcast television has been hard hit with layoffs everywhere.

Locally produced programming, where the station keeps all the money, makes more sense. That's why you're seeing more "pay for play" type local shows.

Memo to Dr. Phil: CUT YOUR PRICE if you want to be back on in Houston.

Same thing here in Dallas...TPIR twice a day. Same thing happened when CBS canceled the old soap "Secret Storm" in February, 1974, and the new game show "Tattletales" wasn't ready yet. Then, though, CBS filled the time with public service programming and specials.

An hour-long LMAD? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Even "Wheel of Fortune" couldn't survive a one-hour format and it hasn't been tried again since 1976. Some game shows get REALLY redundant after 30 minutes. At least TPIR has a different set of pricing games each day.

But, as we've seen over the years, the networks slowly keep giving timeslots back to the local affiliates, and I'd bet within a year that the 2-3PM is handed back to the locals by CBS, forcing the locals to have to buy something syndicated to fill the gap. Perhaps we'll see a return of the long-lost "afternoon movie."

It seems that every revival of LMAD since 1990 have been Zonks in their own right -- the 1990 NBC version with Bob Hilton; the 1992 "Big Deal" on Fox; and the 2003 NBC hour with Billy Bush.

Or maybe more infomercials or "pay to play" magazine shows.
