Prince On Arsenio

Back when Arsenio re-launched, a lot of people were critical of the new show. They said it wasn't like Jay or Dave. Back then, I said it didn't matter. People will do Arsenio who simply don't do as much on other shows. Yes I know Prince appeared on Kimmel. But he didn't do what he did tonight on Arsenio. It was just a tour de force. It's what people want to see from Prince. He was his funky bad self. And didn't have to apologize, because he's in friendly surroundings. That's what matters to big celebrities. And that's why it's great to have Arsenio back. So there was Prince for the full hour, sitting on the couch, and playing some incredible new music. Say what you want about Prince...he really is a brilliant genius. He came on with a full horn section that would make Duke Ellington jealous. He rocked the joint. He tore the roof off the dump. He grabbed a lady from the front row and started dancing. It was as funky as I've ever heard. Harder than Earth Wind & Fire. Bigger than Kool & The Gang. Louder than Sly & The Family Stone. Get the picture? Like Parliament/Funkadelic. Where's George Clinton? He's alive and living in Prince's head. Will it get airplay? Probably not. Will people buy it? Probably not. But for one hour on the television, Prince was back. Good God.

Arsenio's shows, ever since the holiday break (in which some of his producers were fired during that time), have gotten gradually better. Yeah, his monologues could still use some work, but the format of the show will change up from time to time--instead of the monologue, he would sometimes go right into his first guest, or start the show with a music performance.

The Prince episode was a fun episode, and for a man who really doesn't do interviews, Prince did pretty well.
