Pro FM afternoon update

Does anyone actually stick around to listen to the "Afternoon Update" on Pro FM??? That is the worst 5 minutes of radio! Play music! Nobody cares about your ditzy opinion!
 
What the hell is an afternoon update? What do they update? I've never heard of this in my life and I bet I already know what happens. The DJ sits there and comments on every tabloid story he sees on TMZ while a thumping music bed plays underneath him. How close am I to being right?

I've never heard the segment either......but I bet you're right on the money! ;)
 
Some girl comes in named Barbie, she sounds really ditzy, and the jock sits there and goes "uhhumm, uhhumm" for FIVE MINUTES as she talks about celebrity gossip that nobody cares about. One day this went on for 9 minutes. THIS IS CHR RADIO, PLAY MUSIC!!! So yes, you were pretty close ;D

I figured I was about right. Maybe I'm just to old to care about this garbage anymore. If I was a 15 year old girl I would probably be eating this stuff up. Nothing against Pro-FM. They are just programming to their core audience. This is the reason why I am very appreciative that every radio comes equipped with tuning buttons.
 
Features like this aren't unusual for CHR or even HOT AC stations but I've heard it and it just goes on forever. You can get away with that in the morning but not on a shift at PRO-FM not exactly noted for personality. And yeah Davey seems either lost or disinterested. Frankly I've heard him talk with Jessica when the shifts are changing and he really can relax and do more than intro music and traffic but he's stuck in a rut when it comes to his show.
 
The discussions between Davey and Barbie might be boring, but at least it is better than no personality. Isn't that what some of us hate about radio - no personality? No local vibe? Look at the alternatives on the FM dial:
-Ryan Seacrest on Coast
-Charles on WHJY (the best of the alternatives to Davey and PRO-FM, in my opinion)
-WBRU - Yes it is live, but it is still glorified college radio
-WCTK - Kevin Lawrence, live, gets the number two spot
-B101 - Nothing is worse than voice-tracked Premium Choice garbage
-WEEI-FM - Very entertaining, but not a true local station
-WWLI - Tony Bristol is a great jock, but the format is too sleepy for my taste
-Hot - Deanna Cruz does a very good job
 
But what is local about their Update? Nothing. Keep things moving on CHR. The easiest thing to do for a listener is to press another preset
 
The worst thing about these entertainment reports is that you spend a lot of time telling people what they already found out for themselves. If you're that interested in this stuff you know where to find it and that's online. You need a kicker or punch line to make it entertaining. I haven't heard the reports being discussed but considering the station and shift they're on I doubt there's any kicker or punch line. If length is an issue then PPM will put an end to them later this year. Afternoon drive in Providence isn't what it should be but naturally that's because of what's on 93.3 and 101.5.
 
This sounds just like another unoriginal idea that was ripped off from some other radio station. Probably ripped off from several other radio stations. There is nothing creative about it. From what I am reading here it sure doesn't sound like it's even presented in an entertaining way. It probably does more harm than good. If it sucks as much as it sounds like it does, than people are just switching the station like crazy when this thing comes on. This sort of thing could be Ok if they goofed around and made it funny. But it sure doesn't sound like it's impressing anyone from people here are saying.
