Please someone tell me can the morning show at pro fm get any worse? What happened to it? I like Gio and can even deal with Kim but wow the other two are complete idiots. When did it go wrong?

I don't listen. So tell me why the other two are idiots. I'm not saying they aren't idiots. Maybe they are. But tell me why.

any top 40 teen oriented station equals an awful radio morning show!!!

This is pretty much what I think as well. It's morning zoo type radio where the hosts laugh way to hard at their own jokes and other things that aren't even that funny. It's usually not genuine. The laughter is way to exaggerated. It comes off sounding phony. That's because it is.

Most Top 40 hosts seem to lazy to even create their own content. It's all pre-packaged jokes, songs and assorted bits from a comedy service. Very few hosts from what I've heard actually come up with their own material. The ones that do stand out. You can tell the difference. 9 times out of 10 you have to flip to a morning show on a Rock station to actually hear something entertaining. Rock morning shows seem to be more creative and take more risks. In my opinion that is the best kind of radio. Not some jerk who opens up a box or downloads already made comedy bits that are distributed all over the country. That's just plain LAME.

There is a good reason why Howard Stern has a very sucessful career. He has always created his own bits, His own song parodies, his own content. Originality pays off in radio. When you aren't orginal you come off sounding horrible. Then you end up without a job because nobody listens. Once in a while a bad morning team may get lucky and get to keep their job because they are on a real successful station. The rest of the days programming is what draws in the listeners. That still doesn't make the morning show any less lame. Put that same morning show on it's own station on a nonstop loop and it would get no listeners.

They hired these two guys to take one of the other guys place last year and it has gone down hill ever since. One I think is a comic but is never funny. The other kid sounds 12 and tries to sound like he knows what is going on but just is a mess. How could a show that my family and friends use to like to listen to go so bad or is it the audience is lame? Gio and Kim must know the show is not good or are they just keeping quiet and collecting the check?

Umm, have you seen the ratings? You aren't their target demo, Skynet isn't either and neither am I....if G&K wanted to complain and do something, what would they be able to do?
For the millionth time RADIO HAS CHANGED! Howard even left it for being off the bird (as did O&A and many others....). PPM world doesn't allow for the 20 minute rants on Gary's breath....Howard would be VERY different if he was still on terrestrial radio.

The show's so bad the station's only able to be #1 overall in the market with a 10.2 share. Depressing, huh?

Nobody ever said the ratings wern't good. But you could stick just about any idiot on in the morning on PRO-FM and the ratings wouldn't change much. Their listeners leave the dial where it is because they like the music. It's a music driven station and the listeners will pretty much accept whatever you put on in the morning. Good or bad. All they care about is the next song.

I don't know if anybody has access to the ratings from the last 25 years for them. But if you do, take a look. That station has always had good ratings. You could hire a robot to do a morning show on that station. As long as he's playing music he's going to pull the same damn rating. I think Jimmy Grey was the best though. He actually made me laugh. In my opinion that is the last time that station had a genuinely funny morning show. Whenever I've tuned into Gio and Kim in the past, it always sounded to me like a temporary show until the station eventually got around to hiring the new people. I kept waiting for the new guys to show up and it never happened.

Gio had already been at the station forever. So when he ended up on the morning show there was really nothing new about it. It didn't feel new. It's the same damn guy we've heard on the station for years. So I'm pretty sure that is why to this day that show still seems like a temporary filler program to me. Hire a creative guy from out of town that nobody has ever heard of around here. Then we can call it a new show.

There's the problem: Funny is subjective. What you find genuinely funny, others may find boring has hell, and vice versa. Everybody agrees that PRO is a music driven station, and I'd say it's heritage in a land of steady habits has even more to do with its ratings success. However, I think there's a huge base in RI that find Gio and Kim entertaining (I know I do... I'm also in the 25-54 demo.)

Again, funny and entertaining are subjective.

I think this topic is more about Buff and Ben than Gio and Kim. That move to replace Will was very unpopular to the extent of a Facebook campaign to bring him back, but it all worked out for all parties concerned.

I agree that getting rid of Will was an unpopular move. But as unpopular as it was I'm sure that it didn't effect the ratings one iota. So Pro-FM loses nothing. But Will came out the ultimate winner with a job that is 10 times better.

It's a show for young women. They had to get younger I guess. J Buff is simply a ridiculous name to go with. Kiss comes in clear enough to just turn to Matty.

I still think that Matty is the best local show that can be heard in Rhode Island. I remember working at The Rhode Island Mall 25 years ago and my boss used to have the show on in the office and talk about him all the time. This was in Warwick which is fringe signal territory for KISS. Holy cow.... 25 years ago. How old is Matty now and how rare is it for a station to have the same morning show for so long. Matty did something right. Everything right except for successful syndication. He had absolutely no luck there. X2.

See that's where you lose me... Matty's clearly doing something right, and he clearly has a massive audience. I, however, find him boring, unrelatable, and unfunny. I don't care about rich old white dude problems. I've even gone back through Matty airchecks from the 80's and it just doesn't do it for me.

I can tell you exactly why I like Matty. No phony bits written by someone else. No over-exaggerated laughter. The problems he speaks about are real in a similar way that Stern complains about his weekend. That is good radio to me. Just a guy being completely honest about what sucks in his life. It's something that we can all relate to. Having a bad day or going through some sort of problem. Someone who really knows how to tell a story in a humorous way. But also in a way that is honest and true. It's that sort of honesty which I feel makes for a great radio program. If Gio and Kim got on the air and let loose by bitching about their spouses or co-workers, it would instantly make that show more interesting. Maybe it's human nature for people to find turmoil interesting. Perhaps that is even sad in a way. But it sure makes for a hell of a good radio show. When a host opens those doors and let's you in on their life. There is nothing more genuine than that. That's the kind of radio that I like.

Letting the listener into your life and being negative and miserable are two different things. I've got my own problems, I don't need to hear about Matty's. I need to laugh, I need to escape from life for a bit, and that's why I listen to the radio.

If I wanted to enjoy turmoil, I could drive by the gas station and remember when I used to pay less than a dollar a gallon.

It's possible to be positive and happy and genuine at the same time.

I like the drama of hearing abour air personalities' personal lives and problems as it puts them on the same level as the listener. I do agree it's more effective when there's a punch line. I could never get into Matty but it's like that with successful air personalities around the country. Listen to a top-rated heritage jock in another market and without really being familiar with him on a daily basis, you sometimes wonder why he's so successful.

Exactly my point. I'm not saying that radio has to be negative to be good. All I'm saying is that it's a lot more interesting that way.

WSNE should have left him alone and run the show with the KISS music playlist .It was fine.So morning drive had a different format than the rest of the day.Big deal.Like stations did'nt flip to a talk show mornings in the past .I too enjoyed Matty.

Agreed. Plus it's already been proven that the morning show doesn't have to fit the same format as the rest of the station to be successful. When Imus was first syndicated into Providence he was on a classic Rock station. Stern was on a hip hop station. Somewhere else his show was on a country station. No station in their right mind is going to turn away a popular morning show simply because it doesn't sound the same as what is on the rest of the day. That would be like winning the lottery, but then telling the lottery commision.. NEVERMIND. I really don't want all this money.
