Problems on West Peak

Power was lost to the West Peak (Meriden) transmitter site around 6pm Wed reportedly caused by the utility company cutting the power due to a fire in the area. WNPR, WZMX and WDRC-FM went to generator and were only off for a few seconds but as of several hours later WKSS, WMRQ and WHCN remain off. WWYZ is reportedly on at reduced power and the translators at the site were also off.

Do those stations not have a generator? or a properly maintained one?
thats a bit of an assumption that theyre not properly maintained, if they have one. i cant count how many times ive heard stations who do regular tests of their generator tested it a few weeks before a big storm or power outage happen and it still failed.

Its happened to a station ive worked for!

I thought WDRC has their transmitter right on site in Bloomfield.

the AM does on blue hills ave behind the studios.. youre not getting 19kw at 810 feet on the FM from the studios

When I worked at Magic104/WIOF when Merv Griffin owned it in the late 70's - early 80's before it flipped to Star104/WYSR & ultimately to Radio104/WMRQ, the Harris aux. xmtr. was located in the Engineering Rm., opposite the Control Rm. when the station was located on "Magic Mountain" on Route 69 in Prospect. I wonder if 104 would have stayed on the air with the aux. if the station was still located there. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming the aux. is now on West Peak, as the original post by TPO says some stations stayed on & some didn't because the power co. cut power & the stations that weren't affected have their aux. xmtr. located at their facility
