Problems with KTFM as of late...

The phones, the callers are too low, I can't hear the callers, can anyone hear what the heck is being said ???????
Over a million on the facility but you can't hear the phone bits? Y?
Do the engineers ever listen?

Not enough currents...Several days ago I noticed a pulling back on current songs in pm drive. Why?
If anyone knows that not playing them can hurt you it should be KTFM.

This morning the balance between currents, re-currents and older cuts seemed back in order.

I hate to say it but the jocks have got to quit cueing up winners on air over the music.
See above regarding the phones, or is it the stress? If I can't tell neither can the listeners.

Side Note...Please if the winner sux, do not air them-ever. Just tell us the name and move on. That would have to be better than airing someone who sounds like they could care less about the prize, the station, or your program.

Saying a voicetracked Joe Nasty is 75% better than the local jocks in this town is pretty arrogant. Your attempt at pretending you are not a BMP employee just backfired. I have been sitting back watching all this crap talk about KTFM. Seems to me, almost every one of your post has been about KTFM and no other station unless it indirectly involves KTFM. So we get it, but stop trying to act as if we are stupid. Yes I too also believe I heard a few bits on air that really sucked. Thats what happens when you have a night jock that a radio friend told me "is a glorified van driver with a big ego". I personally have nothing against the guy but it seems to me they probably spent most of their money on Joe Nasty. I'm sure they pay their night guy and their new morning show peanuts. I have heard countless stories about how cheap BMP is. Finding a morning host who hasnt been on the air in several years, I'm sure they got him for a steal. Then having a night jock who has never had a fulltime slot by himself, I am sure was also cheap. My question is, how can BMP take KTFM serious and expect them to do good when they make programming decision like these?

I am not a BMP employee. I use to work for Watermann. I Love the musical changes BMP has made to 94.1
I think their signal sounds rough sometimes. I think the phones are horrid. We all know they are working on the cheap. Some basic things must be taken care of at any radio station.
Why they are not at BMP is a mystery to me also.

Why do you call my comments CRAP?

I defy anyone in the biz in San Antonio to tell me what station is creating more heat right now?

As many problems as KTFM has, right now they are IT.

The Beat and Kiss are on top of the heap. (granted). I question how much longer the Beat can hang in there.
Same for Kiss.

Kiss not the same since Kevin V left. They are doing the cookie cutter cox thing like all the rest, except for mornings.
The Beat. The music made them. Power has eroded some, some of their base, slowly.
Magic and KQ BORING, BORING, SNORING BORING, (I am over 30 and under 50). KQ wins out for being fresher lately.
KJ-Y100 which station is which? mostly the same thing just negging each other out.
Mixx 96.1 Solid CHR, not getting San Antonio yet. Maybe North of 1604.

Power is getting better all the time, but their flanker position and low budget show.
KONO, They are great at being an Oldies station, but I don't like Oldies that Old-yet.

Okay this is what I do not understand. You claim to be a Waterman ex employee. What was that? Like 10 years ago? I dont know, I didnt live here that long ago. And yet you post and respond several times a day on this board. Now if I had been out of radio for 10 years, I think I would be over it. What also doesnt make sense is that you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about radio. I will give you that. But you also said "KTFM is IT right now" Well my friend, any station new to a medium market is going to be "IT" I am not trying to bash or attack you but I just do not understand. I dont see why first of all a person out of radio 10 years would still be on the radio boards and two seem to be only hyping one station in particular. I am a woman in my 30's and I fit the demo, I dont see anything spectacular about KTFM. I still feel as if they are all over the road just like many other poeple on this board have said the same too.

Oh and you cannot say KJ and Y100 are the same stations because that is far from the truth. You cannot say Power is slowly erroding the Beat. The Beat has still lasted strong. You cannot say Mix doesnt get San Antonio. Last I checked there were still people in this town that enjoy alternative rock with a dash of Hip Hop. Besides they wouldnt have been in San Antonio all these years if what you said were true. We cannot say that about KTFM who has had a bigger identity crisis in the past than a pre-op tranny. You also cannot talk about Power being low budget. I have already discussed the big spending habits of your beloved KTFM and their peanuts for on air trade Morning and Night show. Last I checked Big Boy wasnt cheap.

I can actually talk with you. I can not discuss what I am doing now regarding radio. I am not on the air in SA.
I have been on the air since I was in high school and I will always do something radio related.

I pulled myself off the air for a lot of the reasons that make radio today awful. I only recently found this site and started posting then.

You are right, about a new station in any market being IT. I don't think Power was ever IT even with the new skinny BIg Boy. I think the cost of adding Big boy only indicates everyone else there is making $10 an hour plus remotes.

I can understand that a CHR might be called all over the road. That is it's strength.
Playing all the hits-and KTFM is playing the 90's cuts the others do not.

What truly makes KJ different from Y100. KJ sounds more small market or earthy and Y100 sounds corporate but
neither sounds smoking hot.
I have heard some smoking hot country stations and the 2 here are Plain jane.
What do YOU like about one or the other?

Mixx is a good CHR just not the best CHR! It easy to be around for years and years without a direct competitor.

Sorry gotta chime in a little. Power is not eroding The Beat? Haven't seen the latest trends, have you? The whole point of this "flanker" is to chip away the Beat and beef KISS up. If it wasn't causing any damage then why the hell are we hearing commercial free rock on 97.7? Seems like a reactive move to me. Plus, I seem to recall the Beat pulling like 8 and 9 shares...now they are down to 5.6 in the latest trend. If The Beat used to pull an 9 before Power launched, and now they have a 5.6, where did that 3.4 go? Oh wow, looks like Power pulled a 3.4 in the latest trend! And of course, the usual discalimer...not just saying this because I am biased. You can find these numbers on allaccess, radio&records, etc. My opinion on this matter should just be common sense. But back on the subject of KTFM...they've been so all over the place for the past year that it's really turning me off. I'm tired of guessing what they are trying to do. BMP is cheap. That's a fact. Also, if you really think about it, the whole KTFM idea, and nearly everyone who works in that building is a "leftover" from 19whatever, Cox, Clear Channel, Univision, CBS, etc... It reminds of the the friday night creations my mom would make with whatever was in the fridge from all the dinners we had during the week. Sorry if that pisses anyone off. I do have friends that work there and I am not talking about you personally, just the structure of that company. Anyway I've said too much. haters feel free to hate if you wish, but i will not reply. take care everyone.

Alright, seems as if maybe some of my comments need to be retracted. Slientmajority made a really good point. I guess you really can say Power has taken away from the Beat. But that is only natural from a station with no direct competition to all of a sudden have someone going directly after you. The trend and book numbers really do speak for themselves. But still, I really doubt Univision is going to flip it anytime soon. KJ and Y100 sound pretty different to me. The music is similar if best. You think neither one sounds hot is maybe because of the music itself. Country singers think they are rock stars now. Some of them dont even wear cowboy hats!!! Another thing, look at all the taylor Swift Rascal Flatts crossover type groups and singers that take away from the genre. Mix with no competition? Then what was Z?? As bad as Z was it was still direct competition for Mix. So in that sense Throwdown you have to retract your comment about that one. You had a point about no stations in San Antonio sounding spectacular. Maybe so. But if you say no stations then KTFM is apart of that group.

KTFM sounds the best in the market right now.
currents on target, recurrents on target, maybe a little too much old school at times.
Imaging starting to sound better than average.

Z was awful, Z95.5 in corpus sounded better and still does. I agree with you there.

I forgot about them (forgetable?), I admit that-so there is Mixx's big saving grace...They beat Z.
92.9 KITY was better...Power 93 was better, Kite 105 in Corpus was better. Kixy in San Angelo was better...


The country stations have such a laid back sound they sound dead to me.

I still think (sales managers will cringe)...cox should have killed Y (in spite of all that ad dollah history) and ran with
the Dillo. Now the Dillo had an Image. The voice work for Y and KJ????what is the diff?

In a market this size with Cox and CC represented (CBS was here), Univision etc etc...
the stations in this market sounded way better with Rusk,Watermann,Roth owning things!!!!

WHO THE HECK ARE YOU? Consultant? Station owner? Sales person? Are you even in San Antonio? Wait..you must be because you "say" that they sound the best in the market.

I understand the passion, but I'm calling BS. This is BMP for goodness sake. They are a company trying to make money. And they aren't going to pay..PERIOD. And if you think that you can come to a message board and preach that KTFM is the best thing since sliced cheese and that is going to actually help your station, you need a reality check! Your constant bantering about KTFM is getting old. Coming over here and saying that KTFM is great does NOTHING...I mean NOTHING for them..or yourself. In fact, it brings your credibility into question.
