Problemz on WLLD

I noticed how well WILD has been doing in the ratings (fairly unusual for an Urban format to thrive with PPM) so I have been monitoring them from out of state. They play a song I love called "Problemz" by Tom G. Is anyone here familiar with that song?

First I think it's really cool that they turned a song into a local hit. Very unusual in this era when playlists are near identical from market to market. But what I really love about this song (besides the fact that it's catchy) is that it 100% goes against the lyrical status quo in hip hop.For the last several years the single most common theme in hip hop (especially songs that get radio play) is "I have lot's of money and I'm going to spend it all on you girl". This has become so stale, cliche, and boring. This could even be one of the reasons the entire genre of hip hop has been in decline.

Just about every hip hop song (and even the Urban ballads) is from the perspective of an alpha male. Well most men are not alpha. I would think that "Problemz" is so much more relateable to the average listener...afterall we all have problems or as Tom G would say "I've got problemz".

Even Jay Z had problemz - 99 of them, to be exact - but if I recall, a ***** was not one of them...

I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with moving to a better signal ::)
