PROCESSING ON 106.1 TRUE OLDIES NEW ORLEANS

Anyone checked this station out recently? Processing sounds way over the top.sounds overmodulated, distorted, clippers are being driven too hard. 94.3 and 101.9 sounded much better.the sound on 106.1 is just fatiguing. Reminds me of the old balls to the wall processing that Scott Shannon's former hangout Z100 NY used. But that was CHR and we all know how aggressive processing is in the Big Apple.Found it weird they would have it setup that way for an oldies format.

youre not alone menotti1.................ive noticed that it has that ''pumping'' sound. a few weeks back someone over there at 106.1 made some processing adjustments and made it louder to go with the pumping. so it blasted while it pumped ::) oh brother.........
it definitely reminds me of top 40/chr processing or z100. they are aggressive in new york..............

but honestly the best rafter rattling processing ive ever heard was at 1025 wfmf. they just recently backed off on it. im not a top 40 guru but my kids listen and i gotta say i do miss that ''death valley loud & tiger proud'' setup they had.......... now its like they plugged cd players or computers stright into the transmitter........... :D

Processing levels are set the way they are now because most radio is listened to in 2 places: 1) the car, where most people don't know how to set their EQ or will adjust it so their favorite station sounds right to them, or 2) in the office where it's on low enough that it really doesn't matter.

Going back to the first...that's why a lot of stations drive their levels. If you're loud, and an EQ is set using your station, everyone else will sound low and weak when scanned. Sure, the station may blow out speakers if adjusted and then scanned back to, but the common...not radio geek...common listener will know what station blew their speakers and wonder what was wrong with the rest of them.

Processing is too aggressive for OLDIES.Scott Shannon is aware of it and wants it fixed.(We have been in contact via email).I think you may notice some changes soon.please post if you do.Back in the day WFMF sounded great, but there was less hyper compressed material than we have now. That's why they backed off some to compensate for some of the horrible stuff being released today.

Can anyone tell me about this station? I'm in Houston. Oldies veteran here. Saints season tix holder.

Who owns it?
Do they use actual jocks, or is it a jukebox?
If so:
Do the jox say anything, or just read cards?
Are they live or canned?

Are any of you affiliated? Would a flamethrowing, phone-monster, local prep-eatin, remote-rockin, EGO-FREE, and coachable talent make any difference there? Just wondering, because the format sounds like love to me. And I love New Orleans.

Citadel owns it and Don't know if there is any local content as I'm just outside the listening range but I do know it uses the ABC networks "The true Oldies Channel" with VO work by Scott Shannon

Just got back from Louisiana and for what it's worth, here's my 2-cents comparing 106.1 with 94.3 after hearing 106.1 for the 1st time:

1) 106.1-I enjoyed the hell out of it. One smash hit after another, I didn't think the processing sucked. Only complaint, Scott Shannon after Scott Shannon after Scott Shannon. That overkill will do it in.

2) 94.3-every 3rd song is a terciary/stiff you don't want to hear and shouldn't even be played on the radio anymore. "Give It Up" by KC & the Sunshine band?! Give it up! And why stop for a break at :07 after the hour? Now that's great ARB quarter hour maintenance! Still running those jingles that are spilced together from the originals to the TIX-FM ones that are totally in a different key...yuck.

Just my opinion...

Maybe they adjusted the processor,it was a month ago when i last heard it.Scott was aware of it and not happy the way it sounded at that time.94.3 is in their own world, but you can't knock those numbers they're getting.

If I remember, he's pretty much locked in due to 94.1 in Kentwood and 94.5 on the gulf coast (co-channel separation rules)

He's already at 100kw and 1,000 ft. roughly and is having to run directional toward Galliano (the station's true city of License is in Lafourche Parish) for signal coverage rules and to protect 94.5 I believe.
