Processing on Star 94/Atlanta

Some of you have probably seen my multiple posts regarding the Optimod 8400 in the past few weeks. I have tried several different "flavors" of processing on the 8400 and I appreciate the help that everyone on this board has provided. I would like to give my station a sound similar to Star 94 (WSTR/Atlanta). In the past few months their processing has been very different from mainstream. Lots of midrange presence with a decent amount of bass. How can I make my station sound like Star 94?

You mean you like the way they sound? Sounds like hammered @^#%$* to me...I can't even stand to listen to a song I like on them. WGST-AM with their telephone-like audio quality is about the only thing that sounds worse to my ears. But that's just my opinion... I'm not a 30-40 something soccer mom so I'm not their demo anyway. No disrespect intended, just shocked that anyone besides their PD likes that sound. Get an EQ, turn up the frequencies around 1khz and turn everything else down...then you've got it. ;D

lol. Yeah I know it probably sounds crazy, but one thing's for sure...they have presence energy in their music that we lack. I'm gonna try it, and maybe it will be a dumb idea. But I think it would be cool to try it out.

Well, I will say that it gives them a little more stereo separation. I've heard their ratings are down a little lately. I don't know, I don't have access to that info. I wonder if the processing has hurt them any? Probably not...I think other than us broadcast geeks, people don't notice unless it's full of static or badly distorted. Probably just Q-100 eating away at them. Speaking of Q-100... While I think their music isn't as good since Cumulus took over, the processing sounds a lot better to me. And it seems they have live jocks on later at night, less automation than before. That really surprised me. Glad to see that.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'll have to agree with atl on the processing between Star and Q100. If Star was the only station in Atlanta to play CHR music, then their processing might not be as noticeable. Since they almost definitely share listeners with Q100, people are probably gonna prefer the sound of Q100 over Star (unless Star brings something else to the table that Q can't beat).
