I was listening to "She's Waiting" by Eric Clapton (on Spectrum)...and was SHOCKED to hear/notice the processing raise the volume in the "hollow" passage towards the end.Are they as heavily processed as it seemed?

The codec used by Sirius, PAC v4, had problems at low bitrates when Ibiquity canned it for use on terrestrial HD Radio. It apparently still does, even with Sirius' in-house improvements. Judicious audio processing probably helps cover the codec's artifacts, as does a roll-off of the high end (over 12 kHz, last I checked on a spectrum analyzer). Also be aware that Sirius may consider car listening to be the primary mode, and raising low level passages is appropriate for such a noisy environment.
