Producer Salaries

I'm sure there is quite a range, but can anyone offer any insight on how much a full time radio producer would stand to earn in the LA market? Thanks!

$12.

That's one radio job I have yet to understand other than it's usually a low paid gofer job with a title that makes it sound important. But whatever it is they do, every modern day morning show thinks the need one (hey someone's got to get coffee and dial the phone).

In my experiance (here in Australia), a good producer is the difference between a good show, and an exellent show. The station I work for have a producer change 12 months ago. 12 months ago it was #1 with a 14.9 share. 12 months later (and different producer) still #1 but with a 20 share.

Wow. I am shocked by how ill-informed some people are about what producers do. Who do you think books the guests, arranges the schedules, meets with the pds/sales/promotions/production to get the morning show what it needs, write and produce bits, and performa a laundry list of other tasks for every morning show in the market? Do you really think Seacrest has the time or inclination to do any of those things? Are those tasks so unimportant that you'd trust an intern to handle them? I've been a producer for several years, and I assure you that I am not fetching coffee for a living.

$10 ... if you're Clear Channel.

Me thinks most of the people who responded never had a producer.

Producernewbee, I definitely agree with you!
Producer do a lot of work for the show and some people are underestimating the position

True, if you work for CC as a producer, $10!

Uho! Producers unite!

You guys aren't going to turn into Power Rangers?

j/k ;)

As long as your not waking up at 2am and being used as a stunt dumpster...

Fugga 2am wake up.

::)

$23,000 a year with benefits at my company in Santa Monica.
We spend a lot of time recruiting out of town for positions here.
I know producers making $15 an hour with a max of 30 hours a week so they are not able to get benefits. One girl I know make 30K working for one of the AC stations. It simply varies with how important the position is within particular companies.

Unfortunately, some do fetch coffee and only make calls. Some are an intrigue part of the show (as they should be). The responsibilities of a producer can vary from station to station (and/or broadcast companies) to the talent they work with. There are some talents who want to do a lot themselves and rely on the producer for support, and there is talent that wants a waiter in the room and never let’s a producer have rank. There are stations and talent that rely heavily on the show producer. The range is wide though I cannot think of any good reason to let a producer position go to waste getting coffee and making phone calls. Any show that does that normally suffers greatly for it.

Wow...
This actually made me register so I could reply. I have always made well over 65K producing a morning show and they were all in markets 4 and below. I personally know of one friend that was making 225K for a show here in LA, another makes well over 125K. I'm currently getting over 75K now and it's not even a top 5 market. What are you guys bringing to the table??

What about producers and call screeners at Fox Sports Radio? Do they get paid more there than somewhere like KFI? Is it hard to get a job at Fox?

The word "producer" is thrown around verrrrry broadly.

Fact is, many of those who are referred to as producers, are really glorified gophers/board ops. They deserve, in large part, what they are paid (25K and below).

An honest to goodness real deal PRODUCER, in the sense of the word, orchestrates a multifaceted show. They are an integral part of the thrust of the show and help bring it to life. They add dimension to it.

This is not small market stuff, and these guys are in many cases paid substantially more than the aforementioned 25k. And they earn it.
