Producer vs Board Op

I saw a thread about "why would someone would be posting about a board op"? I think that there are board ops who basically sit there and run the board and make a few comments here and there and then there is the producer who is booking the guests, suggesting what to talk about and getting that big story. Mountain Man is a board op, jeremy is a board op, i think mike fisky is a board op/ producer but since howie's show sucks I would be embarassed to call myself a producer for that show. Now Helen's producer Maria seems like she's doing a good job and who knows what arlene's producer is doing because the show takes a bad turn when it hits the 5pm hrs. Someone needs to tell them to stop with all the segments.

As for WPRO- dont have any idea who the morning producer is over there. i mean its a news show so how can you go wrong. Matt Allen is a genius so anything he touches is usally great! And big doug, well he had no creations over at HJJ but back at PRO he is himself again!

Every board op claims to be a producer.Every dj claims to be an air personality.

Very few DJ's actually get to show their personality. Back in the old days of Wolfman Jack in the 60's, the DJ's got to be themselves. Nowadays it's all about tight playlists and squeezing in as many commercials as possible. Becoming a Radio DJ doesn't allow you to have a personality anymore. The rare exception is if you get to be a morning guy. Then you can showcase yourself a little more.

Of course Talk Show hosts "ARE ALLOWED" to have a Personality. Unfortunately most seem to have a BAD one. lol

Rusty Humphries. He now has his own talk show, but he started in the beginning making the shows of others sound good. You have to have the work ethic to make it as a producer, and Rusty has had that for years. That's what's made him a legend in this business. Ric Tower is another one.

How about the FACT that Matt Allen is BY FAR thae best talk host in the R.I. market!
Lately, Dan Yorke has been pretty confrontational with Matt.
