When I was at KRZ in 1991 I had a profanity moment.
Mike E. Moore (later Joe Momma ... now Newman in Harrisburg) was doing a live shot from the Woodlands on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. During the last break, around 12:47 a.m., he decided to ask a few folks gathered around him about the party atmosphere that night. The first guy he puts the mic to said, "You've got to come down here ... it's f**king great!"
I was on the floor. Mike could hardly say a word. He tried to pretend it didn't happen, but he stammered through his closing so bad it was obvious that something had gone down.
The second I went into spots, the "hot line" lit up. I was freaked, but it was just Mike, asking if that had gone over the air. I said it did, so we stayed on the phone for a bit in a pitiful attempt to keep our jobs for a few moments longer by tying up the hot line.
Thankfully, nothing came of it (I don't even know that anyone heard it), but Mike made sure to NEVER stick an open mic in front of anyone there again (unless they were properly coached ahead of time ... or a station employee).
Ah, memories...
