Prog talk on 1360 and or 1470?

WLYN and WAZN are willing to put prog talk on--as leased time. Not sure if it will happen but who knows...
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Not big news here. Also amongst "the willing" would likely also include 650, 830, 950, 1060, 1090, 1120, 1230, 1300, 1330, 1550, 1600.

...and if the collection plate were to be passed, and enough money wound up in it...And yes, the GM
did specify 1470 only at this time (but the sig on his post said GM of 1360 & 1470...)

Well if WWZN 1510 goes to Spanish, as has been rumored, it could potentially impact the new "Rumba!" simulcast on WXKS 1430 and WKOX 1200. I have heard rumors that Rumba is already making Clear Channel more money than Air America was...and even if the rumors aren't true, I'll bet they will be within the year...but the arrival of another Spanish player on a better signal could impact that equation.

Couple that with the WKOX move to Newton that'll be done before summer's out, and it opens the door to a lot of questions as to just what CC is going to do with WKOX 1200. I don't think a Progressive Talk return is likely, but I certainly think it is possible. At the same time, it's equally possible that Rumba could stay right where it is. Or that CC could see WJIB's success and put MOYL back on WXKS :) or any one of a dozen other formats. WKOX is, I believe, going to be HD Radio equipped at their new site, so that potentially means that certain formats you wouldn't expect for AM might be "on the table" for WKOX.

Regardless, Air America is bleeding red ink, they can't afford to pay for airtime anywhere, so don't expect a return of ProgTalk by that method.

WKOX is keeping "Rumba" for as long as the format lasts... that's why most of the promotional material boasts of the 1200 frequency. It's the lousy 1430 that will get new programming once 1200 signs on from Newton. And yes, the new 1200 will have HD, for what it's worth.

Re: Prog talk on 1470?

WLYN's time is largely booked, except for overnights, and Sunday afternoon...

WAZN could be a logical home for a progressive talk format. If the group has a spokesman, I would be
glad to meet with them. The other stations mentioned above do not have the inventory to accomodate
an intensive talk format. WAZN, between the day and night patterns, could cover most of the Boston area, and give the progressive talk format a presence in the market, where it does not now have one. With the election coming up, it would be advantageous to establish a progressive presence now. Also, locally originated talk
could be done from our studio in Woburn.

If we could come to an agreement, this could begin fairly quickly...

Otto Miller (formerly worked for MRBI in NY), a principal in the Quincy/Salem stations, died last week - so what that group will now do with their properties is anybody's guess...

Well, the folks on the Save Prog Talk yahoo group saw your message and I know there's interest. A woman
named Robin Bergman is a major part of that effort; NormRosen and Varulven also might get in touch with
you...I'm not speaking on behalf of them, but those are the names I keep seeing in their posts.

Who knows maybe WLYN could run the N.S. Spirit NEXT year, then? :)

It's been said 1430 was "lousy" but up here on the North Shore (say, from Beverly to Reading on 128)
it comes in just fine.

I'm all for 1470 going progressive talk.... Live 24/7 from the WAZN studio too..... Hey Jeff can I apply for the evening board op shifts?

Prog-Talk and paying hourly rates for radio time do not mix. It's an economic plan that is destined to fail, unless Prog-Talk folks can rent an entire station where the station owner is not greedy (not trying to get as much as possible for the time).

Buying afternoon drive 5 days a week (3-7 PM) is only a possible, IF the Prog-talk show host is amazingly & exceptionally good. If that were the case, then that program would be picked up by a bigger station, and leave the Prog-Talk group who bought the time in a real pickle.

The standard hawking for advertisers to support the station is an exercise in futility. However, LISTENER support may be a different thing, making it successful. I think listener support is the future of many smaller AM stations, and orphan formats/programs (as Prog-Talk seems to be). The liklihood of rich liberals making donations is a lot more possible than scraping for advertising dollars.
