WHTQ's Dixon & Willoughby out; Bubba the LoveSponge in

 ???

Last week, WHTQ morning guys Dixon and Willoughby were going full bore -- even hosting a baby shower at Tome & Jerry's bar in Winter Park, where they were fetting the listener who sold the naming rights to his unborn baby for a $100 gas card.

Not happy Cox. You guys are actually stooping to this after what you did to our WMMO?

More interesting than the article are the comments. More music! That's all anybody really wants. Radio is trying to compete with IPOD's by giving us more of the very reason we left radio to begin with. Nobody listens to incessant chatter on their IPOD, why would we want to hear it on the radio? I listened to D&W when they were playing music, and hit the presets when they were yapping.

Actually the school of thought now is that for radio to survive it must be something other than an iPod.

Look for a revival of personalities over the next couple of years.

Heh, I actually remember tuning to WHTQ in the mornings because all the other stations gave me was Drew Garabo, the Fiasco, or any other of the other cookie-cutter morning shows with their usual generic radio personalities. When driving to work, I knew I could get some music in the morning, which I can never seem to get on any of the "modern rock" stations here.

It's not that radio can be something other than an I-pod, but it should be better. Maybe some new music that we haven't heard before. I know playing the same songs over and over again seems to be the deal for terrestrial radio, but technology is giving the listeners a legitimate alternative. The people are asking for more music and radio gives us the same old stuff we don't care about.

If the school of thought is that the there needs to be a revival of inane DJ chatter, then I'm glad I just got an MP3 player for my car.
