Program Changes at Wilmington's "Big Talker FM"...

On Monday, July 23rd, WLTT(106.3) and WNTB(93.7), better known as "The Big Talker FM" decided to make significant program changes that have listeners upset, they made the decision to replace Neil Boortz, just months before his retirement, Clark Howard, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin, posts to "The Big Talker Morning Team" Facebook page reflects the overwhelming opinions against replacing these talk shows with News from 10am till 1pm, Dave Ramsey 1 till 4, Micheal Smerconish 4 till 6, and "Free Talk Live" from 7 to 10pm, not sure about the rest of their schedule, but why would the new owners, Hometown Wilmington Media, dismantle a lineup that listeners and advertisers supported?, i won't be a matter of time before this decision will backfire and be reversed.

WOW, there are Salem stations with a better lineup than that. Sounds like a 3rd or 4th rate talk station.

My friend saw an article in The Wilmington Star News today about the big talker; I don't have the article with me so if anyone has it and can add something that I miss please do. The Big Talker wants to do a couple of things; they don't want to lean all the way to the right anymore they want to be more in the middle. The big talker wants to become an information source that is why they have a mid morning news block and Dave Ramsey. I do not agree with all of the changes but I really enjoy the three hour news for when I am out and about.

From a demographic stand-point, you're going to get a much more diverse audience with News rather than Talk. Recent analysis shows that the people that listen to Limbaugh and Hannity on a daily basis are the right wingers of right wingers. I myself will take in some conservative talk but the die-hards aren't the group advertisers are trying to reach. Women the "Gold of ALL Advertising Agencies" will listen to News if it's done right. Hip Guys with disposable income are listening to sports talk, generally speaking or Rock or Rhythmic.

One Philadelphia station recently dropped Hannity and the rest of national conservative shows and brought in more objective local talk. I think people are also tiring of you have to agree with me talk. People have different opinions about issues even conservatives have diverse opinions. Laura Bush (former president's wife) is pro-choice and supports gay marriage. Same with Elizabeth Hasselbeck in that she supports gay marriage. I'm pro-life and opposed to gay marriage but the truth is these are people that identify themselves as conservatives.

Why would anyone who is a republican be in favor of gay marriage?, i thought they took a stance against it in their platform at the convention back in August.
As far as talk show host like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and others who are on the right, sure, their audience base is "conservative", and yes, at times they take way too much airtime and talk about the same thing over and over, and to me, they don't take that many calls, if all you get for three hours is the host, i can see why WPHT in Philadelphia and "The Big Talker FM" in Wilmington, North Carolina decided to go into another direction, whether it will work remains to be seen.

It's too bad ratings don't get published for Wilmington anymore.

It will fail. Outside of Chad's show, if they are still breaking even I would be surprised. The bonehead who made this decision will probably ride it for awhile just to save face and since there's no Arbs for the market anymore we'll never be the wiser.

I may be thinking of another market but I believe everyone stopped buying the numbers a couple years ago and Arb stopped rating it.

Arbitron dropped Wilmington, North Carolina because the stations didn't want to pay for the ratings book, however, another company will start rating the "Sunrise Broadcasting" stations in this market soon, i'm not sure about the others.

I didn't know there were any other companies that did ratings other than Arbitron. We certainly can use a new player!
