Programming Changes at WBGO

As a member of WBGO I received the following email from the station:

We are excited for you to be the first to know about WBGO's Rhythm and Song Weekend, featuring expanded Rhythm Revue with Felix Hernandez on Saturdays as well as a Sunday edition of the popular program, plus an expanded Come Sunday with Lezlie Harrison.

Rhythm Revue four hours to six, starting at its usual 10am time slot on Saturdays. You can also get more Felix with Rhythm Revue Sunday from noon to 5pm.

Immediately preceding Rhythm Revue Sunday, Lezlie Harrison's Come Sunday program will expand to four hours, from 8am to noon.

You may recall the moment that WBGO became a full time jazz station, following WRVR's programming shift. Former WRVR Music Director and on air host Pat Prescott was a staple in New York radio for 23 years before her time in Los Angeles. She makes a triumphant return to the New York airwaves with her two hour program, Favorite Things with Pat Prescott, weekdays from noon to 2pm on WBGO starting on Monday. The show will highlight Pat's favorite songs and artists, crafted around themes, interviews with musicians and celebrities who will share their favorite things as well. There will even be an opportunity for listeners to weigh in too.

Pat is still listed as the Morning host on KTWV in Los Angeles from 6 AM to Noon. Wonder if the show on WBGO is voice tracked

In reading the program description above, her show sounds more complicated than a traditional music show. Incorporating interviews around a theme is usually the sign of a pre-produced program similar to the specialty shows you typically hear on weekends.

I think Pat Prescott is one of the best DJs around. She's an institution in NYC and L.A, a great voice and a friendly style. But doing 94.7 The Wave's morning show five days a week, along with a two hour weekday Jazz show for WBGO, that's a lot of work at this point in her life!

Note that the three weekday DJs on The Wave, Pat Prescott, Deborah Howell and Frankie Ross, each do six-hour shifts. So I suppose some of those hours are voice-tracked. Never the less, Prescott will now be responsible for eight hours of shows each weekday, six hours in LA, two in NYC.
