"Except... "

We all know Sandy Beach uses a nom de radio, like many of us do. (I don't, though I've been accused of it myself--in interest of full disclosure, I'm still using the same name on air that my dad gave me at birth). Initially Sandy didn't plan it. He once told me, and I'm sure won't mind it being repeated now, that when he got his first good gig at WDRC in Hartford back in the 60s he was told by the PD who hired him that he'd have to go on the air not under his own name (which you can find out from a certain episode of WKRP about a promotional contest that fizzled) but by using either Bradley Field (the name of the Hartford airport) or Sandy Beach. He decided he'd rather be named after a vacation resort than an airport, he succeeded with it, and the rest is radio history.

He named you Bob1370? That's worse than George Foreman's plan.

That's not the worst part!

The worst part is that he makes us all call him "Mr. 1370" at work... ;)

(shades of LA's "Mr. KABC," turned "Mr. KFI," turned "Mr. K," turned out of work by you-know-what-big-company...)

I've yet to hear hear a serious news commentary or news report from Rocky Brooks or Dusty Plains on NPR or any of its local affiliates.

Say what you will, they guy's a personality and much like Wease in Rochester, probably has one of the most recognizeable names in the market.
