Programming Questions ???

Maybe somebody can help me out here. Why does SIRIUS hijack the Starlite channel every year for Christmas Music? I don't understand it because that channel is pretty much just like a terrestrial AC station & the AC format in terrestrial radio is an extremely popular format. So why would you take it off the air for more than a month to play christmas music when as it would seem...be a pretty popular station. I understand that u have to play the christmas music somewhere but why not on like the Elvis channel or the Broadway channel..or any channel that would likely not have as many listeners instead of destroying your best lite mix station. Also somebody explain this 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's & then 90's & now ??? 90's & now I don't get it why is there not a true 90's station..if i wanted to hear that Kelly Clarkson & Nickelback crap I could turn to any terrestrial station & would be guaranteed to hear one of them :( I understand the need for a mix station but put it somewhere else!! And one more thing Hits 1 good station ;D but sometimes I wanna hear something more on the lines of KIIS...u know a little more rhythm..but not the RAP channels I don't want somebody busting a cap in my a_ _ every other song..& I don't want XM!! I think SIRIUS is really good but I would like to see a few changes SIRIUSLY. DISCUSS AMONGST YOURSELVES!

True but the reason terrestrial AC's go all christmas is based around increasing ad revenue. So again I pose the question why is Starlite doing it??? And besides I'am paying for satelite radio to escape this type of programming not to just hear it without commercials or DJ's.

Well unfortunately for you, that's the reason a lot of people DO buy satellite, because they're sick of commercials and DJs but they like their hits. People actually do enjoy Christmas music around Christmas time. Heck, XM dedicated SIX channels to it last year.

Besides, you're defending Starlite, which is an AC. That music is all over FM radio, so you're not exactly escaping FM programming.

What R U talking about ??? I'am perfectly aware why people purchase satelite radio! I also know that they like their christmas music & their hits. My argument is that U can put the X-mas music on another channel & still keep your hits station...DUH!! Best of both worlds! And when I said escaping FM programming what I meant was escaping crap like turning an AC station into a all christmas music station just to make a few bucks. I didn't say that I was trying to escape AC.

"headlandradio" suggests putting the x-mas music on a unpopular channel like the "Elvis" channel...

the "Elvis" channel is actually one of the more popular channels on Sirius...along with Howard, the NFL, and believe it or not, "The Big 80's"....don't player hate on "The King"....

Well I was just using the Elvis Channel as an example but yeah..I meant an unpopular channel. I'am shocked that the ELVIS channel would be one of the more popular channels..being just one artist..anyway, the other three you mentioned don't surprise me.

I have met with people from Sirius, and asked about the Elvis Channel's popularity- it is in the top 5 of all Sirius music channels. Why is it shocking that the King of Rock n Roll with sales of 1.5 BILLION units, would be popular? Just because he has his own channel doesnt mean you have to listen to it 24/7- its meant to go to to get your Elvis "fix", and millions of fans worldwide still enjoy The King. In fact, 30 years after his death, Elvis still outsells 95% of all music artists. Most of the jocks on the channel actually knew Elvis and relay that spirit to the listeners, thus helping to keep the King alive. 8)

Yeah..well..whatever! Like I said I was just using that channel as an example. And besides I personnally don't like elvis..but I see your point, it makes good sense.
