Progress on KHTZ and KVIC?

Does anyone have any progress report on the KHTZ and KVIC move? I have not heard anything about this ever since they got the CP grant to move to 94.9, and KVIC move to 104.7. Will this ever happen?

KHTZ is owned by Roy Henderson, who is notorious for taking his sweet time getting stations on the air. Will eventually happen, but don't hold your breath in the meantime. I suspect a lot of this is due to getting permits for moves and upgrades without actually having the cash on hand to get things going. His 105.3 station in Hempstead was in the CP stage for around a dozen years before getting on the air, for example.

Best way to find out is to drive by the proposed transmitter site and see if anything is actually happening.

The 94.9 signal should be listenable in much of Houston when it does hit the air. Decent tropo will make it almost a local.

I'm in the distant area of the signal out in Lavaca county, I should be able to almost get it as a local? KVIC has not said anything on the air that I have heard about moving to 104.7 yet.

I think that's being much too generous with their projected coverage. The "service area" (60dBu contour) will cover just a portion of Fort Bend County, and all of Harris County will lie well beyond the 50dBu contour. In fact, Victoria (obviously the target of 94.9) is beyond the projected "service area" contour.

Maybe they are thinking like KNTE, as KNTE advertizes as a Houston station, not Victoria, when clearly the coverage is much more local to Victoria then Houston.

I said "listenable" which is not the same as "local" or "good." It should be audible in the western and southern areas of the metro area, just as KNTE and KXGJ are. Decent tropo at times should make the signal equal to the eastern rimshots. But no, the station won't be a factor in Houston listening.
