Maybe One Of The Existing ALL SPORTS STATIONS in FRESNO? Like aren't there 4 of them? 790, 1340, 1430 and 1550.
 
790 already tried AIR AMERICA for two years and failed. Another possibility could be KGED 1680 they are just LMAing Radio Guadalupe and have never showed up in the ratings since RADIO DISNEY.

You are right about 790, but somehow I doubt KGED will change as the owner (RAK) is just collecting money from the LMA from RADIO GUADALUPE and when they were on 1300, They didn't make the ratings either. I don't know how long the LMA is, but RAK can't do anything with KGED until the LMA expires....However if they want, RAK can drop THE SPORTING NEWS at KXEX-1550? I am curious? Of the 4 ALL SPORTS STATIONS in FRESNO, Which one is last in the ratings?
 
It's hard to tell which sport station is the lowest being that KCBL is the only one on the list for Summer 08.If KXEX was to switch to Progressive talk would they simulcast on KSLK 96.1 in Visalia like there doing now.

As a casual sports radio listener (yeah, it's mindless), the 4 stations is overkill. The only benefit I see is the decent availability of NFL and MLB games spread across the stations.

Despite liking some of the ESPN branded programming on 790/1430, whoever is running those stations is a moron or just doesn't care a lick. It is not uncommon to hear:
  • dead air on one or both stations
  • overlapping feeds (e.g. "Colin Cowherd" and "Mike and Mike" at the same time or commercials playing over the shows)
  • this morning, Colin's show went to commercials at 9:08am in mid-sentence
  • the audio quality on Paul Swearingen's show is often painful

On the other hand, I don't see where the progressive talk will get enough audience. Besides, you can get your fill of that from KFCF.

Paul Swearingen and Kelly Carr both are painfull to listen too....good or bad audio...there's a guy named Brian "the Real Deal" on 1340 clear channels fox station...he's pretty good...andre covington is a good guy, but sounds like he's falling alseep....and as far as bad board operation...thats what happenes when you don't employee real radio people
 
CC will most likely burn one of the sports frequncies off the KCBL/KEZL combo. Fox never did well in Fresno ~ the signals are very challenging as well. Poorly operated CC tax right offs. :mad:
 
CBS did not really put any resources behind their Air America effort. They wouldn't allow any local news, weather or traffic as they were afraid it would hurt KMJ. It was to keep someone else from grabbing it and repeating the success of the Air America stations in Portland and Seattle.
They didn't put any sales effort behind it or promotion to speak of, and yet in the Fall 06 it had a 1.0 share 12+ and middays was a 1.5.

I hear the new effort is a group of Democrats going to lease time on a daytimer AM. One show from Jones and a local show.
 
radio twit is right...Air America was deliberately burried by CBS to stay our of KMJ's way. Mike Yeager was 'programming' the station for god sakes, anyone who knows Yeager can tell you he's one of the most stereotypical right wing republicans in the universe...after their attempts to prop up Offerman as a morning man failed quickly, the station was put on auto pilot and completely ignored...which is a pitty because with local talent, a decent marketing campaign and some TLC that station could have made a bigger impact...and it still had twice the ratings that 790 has now

No argument that the valley is quite conservative. But there certainly is an audience for progressive talk. People often cite the general failure of Air America as an example that there is no market for left-of-center talk radio. But let's face it - AA was a bunch of non-radio people who tried to start a radio network and their approach wasn't very entertaining. OK. I'm being nice. It was pretty bad radio. I'm not saying that this new effort will beat Rush, etc. But if it's done well it can certainly find a niche.
