Project 9-6-1 Morning show starts soon!

I was out last week and saw Chris Williams and his "Project" crew celebrating their "96th" day as Project. They had 3 guys that were outsiders celebrating with them. Word is it's the new morning show. Don't know where they're from yet but look for them to start soon. Project needs an injection of something. I like the format but they need a foundation to build around. Aly and Chris are ok, Knox isn't very good. They need some personality!

Sigh.

Radio that actually plays {gasp} music in the mornings, what a novel idea. I knew it wouldn't last, but at least I've been able to enjoy it for a while.

If you're one of those naive people who is actually looking for a station that plays music in the morning you obviously know nothing about radio. Radio stations will NEVER win with more music in the morning. The only way to win that time slot is with personalities. It's a proven fact.

I concur.

This will be interesting to see what kind of personalities they use. Do they think that thier listeners are younger, therefore stereotypical slacker idiots that require a sassy, edgy sound or do they understand that their listeners prefer listenable talant regardless of their music tastes or age?

Where exactly did I say I was commenting on the ratings potential of the move?
Let me save you some time looking ... I didn't.

Although I'd be comfortable in predicting that they won't improve whatever the music intensive version has done by more than, say, .1 to .2 within six months of whatever set of jabbering idiots they eventually put on.
They'll get a bump from sampling, and then settle in with some listeners who like 'em, without some who hate them, while the rest drift back & forth largely apathetic about them.

Still, I was lamenting the loss strictly as someone who found the current morning exponentially more listenable in the daypart than anything they've done in years, Hell, probably closer to a decade. Without a doubt I'm not a perfect reflection of the marketplace, something I came to terms with years ago.

Really? Just happened to run into them at a bar and immediately recognized them and knew who the outsiders of the group were? OK. I'm convinced you're not from that station.

Really? You're convinced "Inside" is not from that station? I don't get what that has to do with anything? As a former CC Atlanta employee, I also heard the same rumor about these guys from my friends that work there. So what? If the info is true, what does it matter if they work for the company or not? I hope the rumor IS true. I'm ready to hear some compelling radio in the morning. Good morning shows are tough to find. I hope they do well.

Look at Rhodes taking the high road. Good for you. I say we get a known local name and an outsider "star/lead" with an unknown 3rd. Anyone want to place their bets?

I'm curious to see what they come up with. Williams has always been a good judge of talent (although Knox is absolutely horrible, but hey that's a budget thing) so I look forward to see what he's gathered.

One thing I have noticed on Project - they are starting to make fun of X and Leslie again - positioning them as old, but then they play a Classic Rock song - huh?

How does that possibly make you seem like the hipper station? Also, the other day I heard Disturbed, and then Billy Idol... ummm how can that possibly keep anyone listening? Your disturbed fan is tuning out, and your Billy Idol fan isn't listening to begin with - very odd.

Good morning shows aren't hard to find...they just won't put them on. Too much $$$.

And it's not exactly like radio's seen the light and is out there aggressively looking for the next generation of talent, or looking for a new way to develop it.

I've had the same feeling when they've played an occasional 70s classic rock song. Sometimes they do get it right though and it's a great thing, this morning they played an older song in the mix but instead of the same old classic rock crap it was Danzig which seriously rocked. There have been times like that when 96.1 has played a song that makes me feel great about listening to the radio. It's been 20 or so years since I've cranked up the volume in the car listening to a radio station and it wasn't because I got older.
I still think they're in danger of trying to create an edgy, smarmy or sassy sound that will subtely keep listeners from bonding with the station. That stupid 'attitude' they put in to their promo spots sounds lame, especially since there's no humor to it, it's just annoying.
How about getting on the phone and asking musicians from their playlist to do spots?

Your looking to Project 96 or any FM in the market for compelling radio? Try the AM button on your radio. You'll find plenty of compelling radio there.

Give me 2 morning shows that could step in right now and make a difference!
Stips - They can't be under contract, and the Regular Guys don't count.

I am a big fan of O&A... listen every day. But they will never be on a CC station in Atlanta. CBS wouldn't let that happen. Anyone else have morning show suggestions? I'm telling you, morning shows are tough to find. Most good shows are locked in, and there are only a few that are syndicated. Lex and Terry could fit I guess. They are owned by CC, but I never thought their show was all that.
Mostly caller driven. Take that away from them and they don't have much.

How about throwing ex-Q100 night jock Geller in tbe mix? He loved the Alternative, he was safe enough for CC and..he was from Utah. The land of high respect for the "baaaaaa-bble belt'" Huh? Huh?
