Project 96.1-It has been 1 year.

Since it has been one year (Nov 2006) that Clueless Channel flipped 96Rock to Project Whatever: I like to know what the readers of this board think about the station a year later.
Bonus Question: Will a classic rock station like 96Rock or Z-93 return to the Atlanta Radio airwaves? The River doesnot count as a classic rock station.

It has been great having a station that plays rock. This is the first time in years I've actually 'cranked up' the volume on my radio, I've literally had speakers flying off of my car door in pieces:eek:

The lamenting of not having a station playing such a stale format as CR is getting old. Whenever a station goes that route it's always the same few songs played in repetition, it's never what people imagine as some reliving of the glory days of their youth. You could put an entire typical CR format onto a few cassete tapes and have your own CR format station wherever you go, no need for a newfangled ipod.

Ironically, the greatest danger 96.1 faces is the strong urges to mix in that generic CR swill, mark my words, if they do that and you hear an occasional 'American Woman' or 'On the Road Again' they will decline.

its been horrible.that crap that passes for rock nowadays is unlistenable.i wish we could get 96rock back and make it like a combo of 96 and z93. both stations that had nothing wrong with them short of a playlist.but clueless channel isnt interested in providing what the listeners want.

LONG LIVE 96ROCK WKLSFM ATLANTA

Once again,I have to defend classic rock(it was know as Album Oriented Rock). I listen to classic rock not to relive my glory days because I enjoy listening to it. I cannot listen to what is considered rock music nowadays.

A combo of Z-93 & 96Rock would make a great classic rock station.

That would consist of opening the vast collection of classic rock from 1960s,1970s,1980s & 1990s. Unfortunaly, that won't happen nowadays. :(

Across the country, classic rock stations are programmed to play the same 25-50 classic rock songs over & over. Why? Because the consultants advise the station owners to do this.

But,then the station owners wonder why their classic rock stations have taken a nose dive in ratings & why listerners have gone to XM,Sirius,I-Pods,Internet Streaming from overseas.

Has it really been a year now? Gosh, how time flies.

On the whole, I've listened more in the past year than I had listened in the past 5 (or more).

My listening is down considerably since the introduction of the new morning show. I also believe they've gotten steadily worse in their music rotation decisions, adding songs that don't really fit as well as narrowing the playlist for currents too far & relying too heavily on fewer recurrents. The trafficking is sloppy (although improved in the past couple of months), the difference between the music library -- harder edged rock vs near-pop alt -- in various dayparts is still too much for my taste (although I do understand it somewhat).

On the whole, for me it's a case of being significantly better than it was but not nearly as good as it could or should be. And since the introduction of the morning nitwits I've slipped from a P1 to a P2, so I'd say they're heading in the wrong direction ... at least as far as I'm concerned as a listener.

It's the kind of station that Chris Williams wanted when he was at 99X. Since The Buzz was more alternative, blowing up that at 96Rock allowed him to start a new brand.

We should just start calling Project, the "CW" -- Clear Channel micromanaged play list, 7th grade budding hormonal attitude and, after 3pm, crappy jocks. The morning show not included as they've yet to fully gel or ditch the music.

What a pretentious and pompous diaper load. That type of shallow and superficial attitude is matched by the shallow and superficial garbage that passes for music today. Yet, this is what radio is targeting. Style sells, substance does not. Style, though, changes; substance does not. In the long run, a lack of substance will be radio's undoing.

I think Project should quit playing Korn twice an hour, go a little more classic rock. And fire Knox, Giant Brian, and all of the weekend crew. I know there has to be way better jocks in Atlanta. Other than what i've already stated Project 9-6-1 should be here to stay. It has the power, I think, to be an amazing station.

That's not what you said in the thread you started about Project 961. So which is it? Everybody sucks except Aly, or the station has potential?

Listen Project groupie! I never said the station itself was bad. I like the station. Got it Superman? What i'm saying, and I think most would agree, is that they should do a little less Korn and a little more variety. And I do think that if Aly ever left Project, the station would be in trouble.

Project is almost there all they need to do to get over the hump is:

1) Take the music currently being played and throw it in the garbage
2) Fire everyone and start over
3) Change the station name back to 96rock.

If you think a legit, typical, non-radio-groupie listener gives a rat's a$$ about anything other than the music, you're the fool. I think Aly's great, too, but 90% of the audience doesn't have a clue who she is. They don't come to the station for, or care about what jocks have to say.

I'm not a Project groupie, kid. I barely listen to them, and it's usually while scanning around to see what's on during my commute. I just want you to get your story straight between your posts about that or any station. On one thread you basically think everybody sucks. On this thread you say the station has potential. You can't have it both ways...or do they not teach you that in government schools nowadays?

Another barrage of e-mails from first time posters Pops up every couple of weeks. Always circulating around Clear Channel stations. Reminds me of along time poster to this board Freebird Fantasia who was a clear channel basher

I hate project. I don't listen at all.

Me either. It is a NIGHTMARE .............................. :p

I can't stand 90% of the music on Project. But I understand why it's popular:

1. There's no accounting for taste in this world.
2. The dumbest buy the mostest (Jello Biafra).
3. It's loud. Southerners love loud.

Snobby, music-****** bags (like me) don't need the radio for anything but traffic.

I mean, I went to Woodstock in 1969, yes I am an old fart. But the shit on 96.1 is just that. I would rather listen to Rap, which is also garbage.
