For all the heat that "Project 9-6-1" takes on this board, it's only a matter of time that PPM comes to Atlanta and 96.1 will be in the Top 5, if not the Top 10. Clear Channel's equally lame-monickered "Radio 104.5" debuted in Philadelphia earlier this year and immediately made huge gains in PPM books that already saw big chunks of cume for established rockers WMGK and WMMR (all three are in the Top 10 in the latest PPM).
In Houston, the other market that's currently in PPM mode, alternative 94.5 The Buzz and sister classic rocker 93.7 The Arrow - also owned by Clear Channel, mind you - also finished in the Top 10.
And today, Clear Channel recently flipped urban "Power 104.1" to alternative with a name that sounds just as stupid: "fm 104 one". Gee, I wonder what that's all about.
They see this format making headway in the PPM's already in Philly. Sure, it may take a little longer in this area, but when Atlanta adapts to the PPM system, and you see WKLS in the top tier of stations, allow me to be the first to say "I told you so".
