Project 961 Like to hear some feedback

It has been 4 months since Clear Channel decided to change 96Rock to Project 961. Anyways, I wanted to hear some feedback, opinons etc about the station & what the future holds for Project 961.

It was a terrible decision then and it remains a terrible decision.

It's funny to hear their PD try and defend this change.

Memo to clueless PD: you killed a station with a decades long heritage, you took away a station which had the most loyal fan base in the Atlanta market and you have shown how little you know - and care - about your listeners.

Is that clear enough?

Their first month of the winter book does not show mucha drop-off compared to 96 rock which is even better considering they have no morning show and 96 rock had the highly rated Regular Guys.

Like the music mix better but wish it was still called 96 Rock.

Change the name back to 96Rock.

The last two posts are really humorous. What do you guys care what the station is called if the format works for you. That's like saying you don't think Scarlett Johansen would be as good looking if her name was Mildred.

But, she wouldn't be :)

I love spaghetti but if it were called "Strands Of Diarrhea" with meatballs, I'm not sure I would like it as much. It would taste the same but would be different, ya know. Sometimes the packaging makes the product.

Some of the biggest stations in the nation have been using/promoting the same logo/image for 20+ years and they are known VERY well in their market because of it. Look at all of the time and money that was spent over the years making and promoting the 96 Rock brand, over 30 years, for it to be simply put into the trash can.

The funny part is the fact that I did not like the station's music when it was 96 Rock but I thought it was a very cool station name. Now I DO like the stations music selection but do not like the name/logo. Ironic, don't you think?

Awful...and remember the 12 plus number you see is a rolling average of Nov Dec and Jan....the stations STINKS, The imaging stinks...there is few advertisers and Deskins and crew better be worried whenever San Antonio calls because someone WILL be the fall guy here and it wont be a clerk....this is a devasting business decision and Cox is laughing all the way to the sisters bank in Hawaii....Best bet is to go back asap - call it a project that didnt work and business as usual...and fast....there is no way this works or makes any money...the advertising community has got to be screaming whenever a project seller shows up.

It has been Project since mid-November so the rolling three month average is almost all the Project?

I haven't listened since the switch. I do look at my old 96rock tag that I used to have on my car in 1986. It's hanging in the garage.

Mostly listen to podcasts now or the southern rock genre on my ipod.

Someone please post a note when they switch back to normal.

Speaking as a soon-to-be-40-year-old listener, the mornings are more listenable than they've been in years & overall the music mix is an improvement over at least the past few years. Since the switch, I've gone from barely listening to them in any daypart to having them become the station I listen to most from drivetime to drivetime. In this case, less really did become more, since less of unbearably irritating stuff led to more listening.

On the downside, I think the nights are horrendous both musically & (lack of) talent-wise, but the ex-radio part of me knows full well that I'm not the target during that timeslot so I can't really hold it against them too much.

Bad analogy because strands of diarrhea describes something that already exists. Project 9-6-1 has no pre-existing connotation. What I will say about Project that I don't like is that the imaging doesn't match the music. For the most part, the music skews older than most people give it credit for. Lots of early 90s, 80's and even 70's stuff. The promos and sweepers, though, still sound like Buzz imaging that was targeted for the dreaded 20-year old guy demo.

MildredRock would be better name than project 9-6-1.

How about Scarlett 96? ;)

I'm not in your demo being 40. (I guess I'm not!) That doesn't mean I don't like thrashing rock n' roll, but 96 is practically unlistenable to me. It's bottom of the barrel rock music. I just don't hear anything remotely creative or interesting.

Music change - OK
Name change - Thumbs Down
Imaging - Could be better

On the post about the 96Rock tag in the garage, I have one too and did not listen to the station that much. It's just a cool looking and sounding logo. 8)

Don't kid yourself. Chris Williams, PD, doesn't care what we think. Otherwise, 96 Rock wouldn't have been killed off.

I really don't think Chris Williams had ultimate control of changing the format at 96.1. He is only a PD, they really don't have the kind of power. His success with The Buzz is the only way you could really blame him.

However, I am still very sad that the name "96 Rock" is gone. I have a 96rock tag too and will not be taking it down. The station may be over, but I still think of it commonly and have lots of great memories.

The music on Project 9-6-1 isn't bad. I don't agree with some that they should dump the Classic Rock, I think they should maybe even add a bit more. Pretty much what they are doing with music is what 96rock did with music pre-2004 (except with Lynyrd Skynyrd and without Slipknot, Korn, and System of a Down). The change of music at 96.1 is not as bad as the change of the name and the change of personalities. What IMO made 96rock so great was that it not only played great music but had interesting personalities to supplement it. Even in the final years with The Regular Guys, Southside & Rhodes, English Nick, Jennifer Reed, ect... I liked how the station was personality-driven. I'm not saying anything bad about Aly and Chris (as I've always enjoyed them both), but I think they should have kept some of the 96rock staff in addition to them. The station would be better if they kept the name and really made it more of a merger between 96rock and The Buzz. Braves gone from 96.1 is the best part of the change. Love the Braves, but not on 96rock!

the name the project sounds like indie bands to me . project 961 is horrible. bring back 96 ROCK!!!!
we need a indie station in town as well
