Promo on WTVN

There's a promo that started running this morning saying they are taking over another station...details coming soon. Anyone know what they are talking about?

My guess is the 106.7 signal - WMRN now at 106.9...

Could it refer to them, or some of their programming, possibly being addded to XM's Clear Channel regional news and talk category?

What do you think about this - they take over the W294AH-FM 106.7 signal being used by WOSU-FM right now and simulcast WTVN as a test. Then when the construction permit is issued for the WMRN move, they have already established the signal!

real funny that you mentioned the take over of the translator. Yesterday CC/WMRN applied for an experimental permit for 106.7.

I didn't think AM stations could be "translated" on FM without FCC approval? Maybe that is what the expermental thing is about? Anyone with FCC knowledge know what typically an "experimental permit" would be applied for and used? I know they still have their pending app for the move of 106.7 in the wings at the FCC (last action was in july 05 when it was "accepted for file" ) are they trying to nudge the FCC to move things along quicker?

I still think they are taking over a gas "Station" the 106.7 move is still taking time due to legal challenges from the committee for competitive radio, which includes the owner of the translator that WOSU currently uses at 106.7, why would they be spending all that money on lawyers to keep it on the air and hand it over to clear channel. And why put WTVN on an fm signal? Its biggest AM signal in Columbus and can be picked up over a larger area than any of the FM's in town.

Unless they finally get their act together and start broadcasting in HD and simulcast 610 on some HD2 channel like what WOSU is doing (if I am not mistaken). But like Allfirdup says, why simulcast on FM when they have the strongest AM signal in Columbus?

Because their southern coverage sucks at night.

Actually, their signal to the east and west of the city after nightfall makes the southern lobe look pretty good. 610 is heard decently down past Circleville at night, probably an effect of pushing 15-20,000 watts ERP to the north. The signal to western and eastern areas sucks. You can't hear 610 in Newark or London and it BARELY gets past Lancaster. Coming up 71 from Cincinnati, forget about it until you're practically within sight of the towers.
