Props to Q102! Now this is what Radio's all about!

I can't believe this hasn't been brought up here, but last night, Q102 did an excellent job of airing the Train and John Mayer concert at River Bend.
This seriously felt like something radio would've done 20+ years ago!
Thanks for a sort of back to the future experience from this out of towner!

Q102 had live summer concerts live on air quite a few times back in the 80's. I'm glad they are doing this again. The last time a live concert aired, was on 97.3 when they did a live Coldplay concert from River Bend 5 or 6 yrs ago.

I can remember when I worked at Kings Island back in the late 70's and early 80's, Q102 would broadcast concerts on Friday nights. It might have been in connection with the Grad Nights.

I was in the Entertainment department at the time so I helped with load in. They would use a split snake with two outputs. One would go to the front of house mixer and the other one would go to the mixer that fed the lines to the station. I thought that was pretty cool. For a 17 year old, I was absorbing as much as I could as a techie back then.

I actually left the show early and listened on the way back to Indiana. The sound quality was great. It was really neat, especially a radio nerd like myself.

I do wonder how it'll come across in the ratings. Odds of a John Mayer loving PPM holder staying with Mayer on Q are probably a long shot. There were also long periods of silence as Mayer was obviously doing some adjustments on stage. The liners and such were a little low.

Will the masses respond?

The music lovers have.
