Prov. Radio Memories!

WOW!

after spending the past 3 hours going through the Providence board posts I just had to chime in here, as I am a lifelong RI resident now residing in Houston, TX, My name is Brad and I have had the pleasure of being in radio in the mid 1990's in the ocean state, starting off at WXIN in the fall of 1994 helping out RIC alumni and former Fun107 air talent David Anthony. In January 1995 myself and former Kix 106 part timer Ben Meseti helped the Wheeler School sign on WELH - FM, I remember it well as the first song ever played on WELH was the Romantics, What I Like About You. Fun times back then as we did an alternative format 6 months before the edge signed on at 99.7, it was alot of fun, and I worked with Robbie Bridges! (who was a student at Wheeler at the time I think?) (Rob Pagliaria is his real name I think?) we also had former Kix 106's kickin Al Snapes and Mighty Mike do some morning shifts for us, In the summer the station went more metal if I recall. Then I got the fortunate opportunity to intern at then Kix 106 with night time drive man the real deal Mike Neal (Mike Schroeder) which was at the time they were about to move out of their studios in Attleboro to go to Pawtucket if I recall, working with Mike and Joe Dawson for the next 7 months was an amazing experience. the energy Mike had in the room was incredible! Kix was still dance at the time and the station was using reelworld jingles and just sounded incredible.

my other memories (some I had recorded) (god I WISH i still had my years and years of airchecks I accumulated, got lost in some moves :( ) I remember the old WPJB 102.7 on April 1, year i forget? changing over to kix 106 to increase their RI audience, there was a snowstorm that day and John Fuller, who was the jock that morning, did the weather and segued into Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me" followed by the last 'PJB Legal Id Jingle, "102.7 WPJB Narragansett Pier. Southern RI" followed by silence then the kix morning show at the time.

also does anyone recall 100.3 The Beat?? (the 100.3 incarnation right before the hawk) the imaging guy was good!! great music, the funny thing was the countdown clock after the format died in 8 months got more publicity then the stations themselves!

and fond memories of RI 104. with Red Decker, Ulysses, and who can forget Fun 107 in their infancy? I could go on and on but I won't

feel free to chime in, correct my memory, etc! I am happy to be here!

It's a good thing you have these memories because with the current state of the Providence market no one is about to make any fond memories anymore.
