Providence 12 plus ratings

Only 12 plus but here goes:
HJY down a little but up from a year ago and still #1. Still you really have to look at them as the PRO-FM of rock in that they've really had no competition unless you consider the old KKB which I don't.
CTK down a little but stable with no competition. They mainly have to keep the audience listening to country longer than other formats. All in all even though I'm not familiar with the format they do seem to rest on their haunches less than other stations.
PRO-FM's downward spiral continues speaking of resting on haunches
Lite's drop a real unprecedented shocker but probably a fluke as I don't see where their listeners went.
WPRO up again
B101 down: so exactly when do we see the benefits of all the changes they've made other than saving a lot of money on salaries
HJJ up a little but still down from last year
Coast stable
The flip to Spanish for KKB paid off
WEEI up with no competition. Yeah I know there's WSKO AM and FM but like I said no competition. Still amazes me that The Scores don't have more listeners.

what are the numbers for WPRO to WHJJ?? But break it down by parts like: morning drive, midday, afternoon...

Breakdowns are not publicized and actual numbers are not allowed to be posted.WHJJ is still undergoing change so the summer book doesn't tell the story for the future.
My take on the music stations:
HJY will always be dominant but I see change in the long-term.They do,like PRO FM,rest on heritage and lack of competition but still put out a good product.Charles'effect is waning though and Brangiforte is not the sidekick for him.
Lite Rock 105's down book is nothing to be concerned about although Citadel will probably not be happy with it.The station has changed nothing and will probably recoup in future books.
I'm surprised Coast didn't do better as middays and afternoons are sounding better than ever. The morning show will always retain its Joan groupies but no one already listening will ever come over to that show which is really not a very good one.
After years of no competition PRO FM is basically competing with itself with Citadel's HOT 106.And what is really the story with the fugitive contest? No winner? No giveaway.Shades of WXLO's million dollar birthday contest that no one may ever win.
B101 underwent too many changes too fast.If the music had to change the personalities should not have.Letting Big John and Bruce Palmer go was a money decision but a bad one considering planned changes to classic hits. They undoubtedly were successful at losing older listeners they didn't want but are not successful at getting younger ones who want a mixture of classic rock and pop. There is no heritage there anymore.Ed McMan comes across as a musicologist and is boring and B101's audience doesn't know Amy from a hole in the wall.TC is good but hasn't been around long enough to have name recognition. There's nothing at that station you couldn't get with a discount 3-CD set of classic hits and you wouldn't have to put up with the lackluster staff intruding.

Noticed WMVY actually showed up in the ratings. They're on 96.5 in Newport, tiny signal, owned by an individual who replays mvy with permission. Is it even allowed to show up in ratings? If so; why don't public stations?

The fact that they are number two in the market should say something. Even in Providence, country is a niche format. It shows that the stations with the mainline formats (PRO-FM, Lite, Coast, WWBB) aren't resonating with listeners the way they once did.

> PRO-FM's downward spiral continues speaking of resting on

I know that Citadel is trying to cultivate an older audience to stay out of Hot 106's way and keep the pressure on Coast, but this station just sounds tired. It's possible to skew older and not sound so lifeless.....

> Lite's drop a real unprecedented shocker but probably a

Providence is classic for major drops and rises from book to book and this one is no exception. Diary placement affects this market much more than other markets of similar size. I'm sure Lite will be fine. Besides, the carolers and elves will be arriving a few weeks from now to fix things....

> WPRO up again
I betcha that's where some of Lite's, B's and HJY's listeners went.

> HJJ up a little but still down from last year

First they flip to a quasi-liberal presentation without committing to the format, then they pull the plug after not even a year. With the ratings beginning to turn around, they've now latched on to local but amateurish hosts. Their management is truly clueless...

> Coast stable

What else is new.

> The flip to Spanish for KKB paid off

And everyone on this board was laughing at the decision to go Spanish. I guess Davidson is the one laughing now...

WEEI is very good at what they do. While the Rhode Island teams (Pawsox, Baby B's, PC, Brown, etc) have followings, most sports fans root for the big Boston based pro teams and no one covers them better than WEEI.

I don't know how niche it is but think country is picking up listeners from other formats. As CHR music changes, even with PRO-FM's deemphasis on urban, they still play a good deal of it and the direction the music is going may drive older contemporary listeners away. B101 probably resonates only with the people working there, if them at all, and I don't know if they even realize how tired they sound.

I don't listen to sports radio that much but it was once said that WSKO takes itself and sports too seriously while WEEI knows it's all about entertainment. But then some sports media types have this tendency to function in their own little cloistered world. It's almost like a hobby that turned into a career, although at least Colletto and Cordischi are professional broadcasters. Maybe WSKO just isn't entertaining the way WEEI is.

I hear them on 92.7 which has a strange signal. Sometimes I get them when I don't expect to & other times I can't hear them when I would think I could.
