Here's my little rant about Providence area transmitter sites. If anyone can provide any expert knowledge or history, I'd love to hear it. My biggest pet peeve is how 2 major Providence area FMs have transmitter sites in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Yes, WSNE is technically a Taunton station, but serves the Providence market. But WWBB is licensed to Providence. These two stations sites are several miles east and slightly north of downtown Providence, hence reducing signal power to southern and southwest Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut, where radio signals are a bit more scarce. I've always thought that WPRO-FM and WWLI had the right idea to put their transmitters several miles west and slightly south of downtown Providence to better serve the entire state of Rhode Island, areas of eastern Connecticut that aren't served well by radio stations, and keeping out of the congested Boston FM radio area. WHJY and WBRU do OK by having their transmitters only about a miles or two east of downtown in East Providence. But what is up with WWBB and WSNE? Even channels 10 and 12 have their towers in Rehoboth. Could WWBB and WSNE move their transmitters to the WPRO-FM tower? This could help with short-spacing with 101.7 WFNX and maybe 92.9 WBOS.
