But give the man credit...this is his second Marconi and he's been doing it close to 35 years. Face facts, radio isn't like "the olden, golden days" anymore and it isn't ever going to be so again
That isnt the point. I just think his show is terrible. An old guy trying to be a gossip teen that rambles too much. Sorry but it is my opinion and considering. And yes, I hate syndication in local radio, I am over it since I listen to satalite mostly. Thing is dont say Providence as a winner because he isnt Providence, he is Boston spoon feed that is syndicated on a low rated station down here. Also you are correct, the "golden" days of radio are gone but I can throw my support to the local jocks and that is what I do (when I am not listening to satalite). Fact is the Geo and Kim show is bar none better than Mattys show, yes my opinion but it is my opinion to have. I am well aware of the state of local radio and where its heading, yes I dont like it, and yes when I have no local guys left to listen to I will exclusively listen to satalite...PERIOD. At least that way I dont have to sit through ads. Don't get your undies in a knot. You'll find most in the business agree with you. I agree Matty is a non factor in Providence but that isn't so in Boston. He's survived for years. I agree he doesn't do the best morning show in Boston but getting this award is the result of a combination of factors including longevity and not the least of which he basically IS Kiss. Nothing else on that station matters much. He isn't on Coast to bring in an audience. He's there to save money.
Coast should have had the patience to stick with a local morning show even if the rest of the day has to be voicetracked and Seacrested. They had one with Tad Lemire. They should have kept Brian Mulhern & hired a female for news who could hold her own against the 2 of them. No, frankly I don't think they would have taken the market by storm because peoples' morning habits aren't easy to change. They screwed with mornings on that station ever since they separated Jones & Joan. They made their bed. Now they can sleep in it. Brian adds more to the WCTK Tim Leary Morning Showgram just with his traffic reports than many actual co-hosts do & Tad not being on the air in Providence is ridiculous.
No I understand that, I just am a little passionate about some things I guess. Frankley Kiss is a mess of a station too in my opinion. I am still struggling with the idea that what I am guessing was the flagship for Open House Party doesnt even carry it anymore... And OHP is one syndicated spoonfeed that got it right. What is going on this morning at Coast? They are playing ads on top of music, music on top of ads, traffic reports every 2 minutes, Matty sweepers, but no Matty - long silences. We are months into this thing and they still can't pull it off.

I can't believe that you are listening. I thought COAST lost all it's listeners.
Believe me; I'd listen on 107.9 if the static wasn't so bad. Brutal having to listen to the taped news and traffic reports. I am also unclear why Big Jim and Kevin find it necessary to change their voices.
