PROVIDENCE RADIO ROLE CALL

As a teenager I would call Steve often. He invited me down to HJJ to be a guest on his talk show. He was a very gracious host to me. I kept in touch with him and a few years later while at WKRI he wanted me to work on his cable TV show. But as I got busy he and I just lost touch.

It would always crack me up when he got on the air and called some lady an old Bag! lol. He may not have been the most politically correct host, but he did know how to get people to listen. No matter if you loved the guy or hated the guy, you still couldn't help but to tune in to hear what he had to say. That was the magic of Steve White.

Steve Valentine just checking in...I've been a humble weekender for B101 since about the time it became B101...I joined the staff a few months into its first year...

For what it's worth, I'm the longest serving member of the staff currently on the air. I consider myself fortunate because I've had positive experiences with all of the PDs and GMs, as well as the program and sales staff.

In addition to my regular job in the non-profit world, I volunteer as emcee at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River. Website is www.ncfta.org. And I write a blog called "Backstage at the Narrows" which you can access through the Narrows website...click on "Backstage."
 
Hi Steve, always wanted to know if you were also "The Reverend Doctor Steven" on WATD in the early 90s.
Man, that "Rock & Roll Rhythm & Blues Revue" Saturday afternoon show was great radio.
Love "The Old Fool" regardless Steve.
 
Sorry for not replying quickly. Yes, I was the Rev. Dr. at WATD...funny how anybody remembers that...it was just Saturday afternoon. It was a lot of fun for awhile. Man that goes back a long way. Thanks for remembering!

Ya know what I have never posted on this board and swore that I never would. I'll read it yes cuz' there's a lot of time to fill in the day but post, never... That was untill I read the inital "I'm the ghost of Steve White" post. I laughed so hardI damn near fell outta my chair. Then I read SKYNET'S post on his experiance working with Steve. SKYNET, I don't often agree with you but you hit the nail on the head... Steve was a fun guy to work for (most of the time) and a talent (go head say what you will) like his has not been seen in this market since I can't beleive I'm saying this but in Steve's case it was "Pride goeth before the fall"... You know it's true. Yorke, Barber,Barte,Glover god no wonder the ratings are in the can... So help me god if someone says the Independent Twirp is a talent in this market, so to stop my ramble, "CRAZY TIME" anyone...
 
OK, OK I confess. I also worked in Providence in the 80's at WPRO.

To this day, the folks at WPRO, on and off air, were the best radio people I've ever known.

Barry Parker, Jimmy Gray, King, Cherub, Salty, Chris Camp, Gio, and a million more. Steve Kass too. All people ready with a smile when I'd see them in the studio. OK maybe Bud Toevs (sp?) wasn't always smilin' on the OUTside...

Back when radio was so much fun we couldn't wait to get to work.

PM Drive @ BRU! (I used to be part time AM drive during the school year, then I did a summer of AM drive and it kind of destroyed my fun for the summer. The best part is...I go to URI!

Former Fun 107 intern-turned-Production Director/Copywriter/middays, 1993-2000. Also did occasional weekend work on Kix 106 in the late 90s, when Scotty Snipes and Joe Dawson were running the show.

I was the creative director for WJAR-AM in the late 70s till mid 1980. I also did some airwork when Peter Mokover was the PD.

I've still got several of the tapes of commercials and promos I wrote and produced with Mike Sands, Charlie Jefferds, Bob Hollands, and several others. Assuming they haven't completely deteriorated from all the moves I've made (Maine to Lowell, MA to Providence, RI, and back to Portland, ME)...I'm gonna haul 'em out of storage and reference them.

Have to admit that Buddy Cianci made an interesting mayor! :p

I was on-air at PRO-FM from '95-'97, and started when I was only 18. It was Sunday mornings from 7-9, and some overnights, so I don't think anyone heard me :)
