Skynet,
Thank you for posting the 'rankings'.
I have been told WHJJ Helen Glover actually beat Barber in some ages!?
Is that true?

John, if you're looking at the 12 plus on R&R or Arbitron's website they are not labelled correctly. If you notice, winter 06 is between fall & spring 05. I think you're actually seeing winter 05. The next book should be fall 06 & those numbers aren't online in spite of the next update showing as 1/12/07. There's really been no update since the summer book so maybe there's an embargo. All Access doesn't have fall 06 numbers either. The dates on the heading are not chronological.

In that case the integrity of the rankings may be in question. My ratings say 06 across the board and I was looking at Winter 2006 ratings. However as you pointed out the lastest ratings should be Fall 2006. So perhaps I got confused.

Am I allowed to post links to ratings as long as I don't list the actual ratings on this site? I'm not sure if I can do that. But just in case I can, here is the page I'm getting the ratings from.

Those numbers are 12+ and not from Arbitron, so don't waste your time.

Well Fall 06 is embargoed - so they didn't get them from Arbitron - which means they could've come from anywhere.

OK, well it's a legitimate site, so I'm sure they arn't making the numbers up. So if Fall 06 is embargoed than that means this site must be really good if they were able to find the numbers to publish them. 8)

They are Arbitron numbers but as Rig said they are not chronological. What you see as winter 2006 are winter 2005 numbers. Notice summer & fall 2006 numbers are identical. That doesn't mean they didn't change but that they didn't get updated due to the embargo. The same misprint (winter 2006) that appears on other sites carries over here.

Ironically with some of the major changes that occurred in November & December the fall numbers would not be representative of listenership as far as I'm concerned. What has always bugged me about numbers is that what the media buyers are seeing is numbers based on past performance but they use them to buy stations now that can have vastly different programming. But then don't get me started on media buyers since you wouldn't want some making change for you at CVS. Not all but some.

I don't know how many different ways I can tell you this... THE NUMBERS ON THAT SITE ARE WRONG! Those are not the 12+ numbers for the Fall book.

Yeah, it's a really impressive site... they don't have Fall '06 so they just re-publish Summer '06.

LOL. Ok for a split second you were funny right there. That's fine. I can see your point. It was quite confusing at first glance because it looked like it was updated.

So how does an embargo usually work? Does a station with bad ratings take a hissy fit, complain to arbitron and then embargo the whole market so the general public can't see how bad they are doing. Isn't that how it usually works. LOL

"Fine and snappy! How's your pappy?"

Tip: Most-instructive way to trend radio ratings: LIKE-book-to-LIKE-book -- i.e., compare Fall06 with Fall05-Fall04 -- for a number of reasons.

ESPECIALLY for AM stations, since power and/or pattern change occurs @ local sunrise/sunset @ fixed times which change month-to-month. Many AMs dang-near disappear to much of their Metros on night pattern.

Play-by-play generally, and a winning baseball team in particular, can effect seasonal/perennial fluctuation. Severe weather can reward stations which "own" their markets' weather image. Ditto for major, ongoing news stories, which can endow Talk stations.

Smart stations keep a diary.
NO...not THAT kind of diary.
An actual diary.
Note, week-by-week, how the weather was, how local teams were doing, big news stories, etc.
Then, when week-by-week numbers are available later, look for cause-effect.

Good evening from Saginaw,

Yeah I sat in front of my computer like an idiot writing up that whole thing and was oblivious to the fact that none of it really made any sense. I'm just going to go back to giving people a hard time. It's a lot easier. LOL.

I notice the problem. Winter 2006 means last winter, as currently we are in Winter of 2007. I have the numbers from Summer of 2006 (12+, the numbers that really don't matter), and they match identically to what the website SkyNet74 is citing as Fall of 2006. So I'm thinking that the headings changed, but the ratings didn't. So the 'rankings' that SkyNet posted way at the beginning of the thread are actually from Fall of 2005, since the headings with the ratings periods were bumped with them, but the numbers themselves didn't go along for the ride. Does that make any sense?

So who actually has a book and doesn't mind posting the actual Fall 2006 'rankings?'

Jacko

Oh, made a mistake. Summer and Fall of 2006 on the Radio-Online page are exactly the same, meaning the numbers that SkyNet cited are from last Winter (2006) and not this winter (2007).

See... even you got confused! lol. You are correct. I saw "Winter 06". I was thinking that was the latest book since to me "Winter 06" meant last month! "December 06". Now you can see why I got confused.
