Providence's WSKO 790-AM switching to OLDIES

On Monday 3/10 Citadel canned the WSKO AM and WSKO FM staff in favor of the TRUE OLDIES format on 790 am and a simulcast of WPRO-AM on 99.7 fm.
Although 790-AM is presently airing ESPN RAdio for the remainder of the week Scott Shannon's TRUE OLDIES is about to debut on the new WPRV-AM probably at the begining of next week.
The dying format seems to be getting a second life on many Citadel/ABC stations.

It's about time. I hope this trend continues.

I think such a move would also be great for "heritage" (right) stations like KONO to move such programming to their AM simulcast stations that sound very tinny just airing the overplayed junk the FM station plays.

I'm sure our resident expert, David, will chime in here and blather on and on about how oldies aren't cool, no one need listen, etc.

Kind of like "...long-haired freaky types need not apply..."

A little discriminatory if you ask me.

Donald...be nice to our friend. He keeps us old geezers minds sharp with debate!

It is a nationwide trend, with more signals popping on with the format, AM & FM both. It seems the coveted 25-54 is still the main dinner, but it's shared with so many others, the slice is too small. 35-64 is the banqeut, with no one in line, except News/Talkers. The boomers are voracious consumers of radio. We never left. Radio, in many cities, left them.

The Oldies format really seems to be returning fast and heavy in a big way.
