I just saw the traffic PSA on the CBS Evening News. Then, I watched your 4 minute version. Both, tough to watch. But a strong message that should be seen, in my opinion.
I know, it's the young guys who will blow it off, because it's not "manly enough" for them to admit that it's effective.
But it is, in my opinion, and very real. I've seen it happen here in my community with high school girls ... killing eight. One survived, a girl, drunk and on the cell texting and driving while "goofing off." 16 years old. Charged with multiple manslaughter. Ended up committing suicide. Another accident, killed three varsity football players at the beginning of the school year just a couple of years ago. Texting ... to each other ... in the same car.
Not funny, not too graphic for "graphic" sake. My ex is a hospital radiology tech and saw them all up close and personal. Didn't sleep much and facing the parents is even tougher.
Yeah, it happens, just like this. Young people are immortal, they think. And they don't think very clearly at times.
I hope this shows up on every TV station and in every classroom, frankly. A couple of the parents, two who got divorced, remain friends of mine.
Broadcasters, here's your chance. Texting can and will kill you. We have the law here in California, but it only takes one to be "too big" to follow the law.
It's not a pretty sight and takes a long time to overcome. You never do. One of the parents, in tribute to his son who was lost in one of the crashes, bought a year's schedule on a local TV station to get the point across. It's sad to watch.
As for the other spot, not as effective. Accidents happen. Again, common sense.
Driving with a cell or, especially, texting is just plain dumb. Nobody is good enough to take the risk, let alone the chance.
You only live once. Be grateful for that. 11 kids from my community didn't have another chance.
Tony, thanks for the link. And to the posters, spread the word ... and the reality.
Sorry for the rant.
