PTC Calls for Regulating Video Streamers

The Parents Television and Media Council is calling on the FCC and Congress to regulate streaming services.

That came Tuesday (June 8) after the heads of the top streaming services did not participate in its virtual town hall on better content controls.

“We renew our call on the top streaming companies who didn’t join our town hall to meet in some other public forum where they can identify Industry Best Practices, which all streaming platforms would adopt," said PTC President Tim Winter. "These guidelines should include, though not be limited to, reliable gating/blocking technology measures, and an accurate, consistent and transparent age-based ratings system."

PTC also renewed its call for the government to step in.

The PTC supports the nanny state and censorship it's the parent's job, not the government I just don't like groups telling me what I can or can't watch on TV. I bet The PTC would've just scolded the media companies if they showed up at the town hall I like how some didn't even know about I guess they don't read headlines from The PTC LOL. The PTC is Prude Television Censorship Council.

The legal justification this group had before was the spectrum was licensed by the government, and cable companies are licensed by the cities. The internet is the wild west. Anybody can start anything, and they don't have to ask mommy for permission. No license required. That's the idea behind the internet, and that part is not going to change. The parents created the monster by giving their kids phones before they can drive.

Wasn't the PTC a promoter of the TV ratings boondoggle? Producers had to add ratings to their programs, and parents were supposed to set the limits in the setup menu of their TV sets and receivers.
Guess which didn't happen?

Yup, they sure were they complain about the TV rating system saying it is flawed saying that Hollywood shouldn't be rating the content they make saying that there should be some health experts to be on the ratings board some that believe what the censorship org believes which would be wrong on all levels which health experts shouldn't be on the TV or movie rating boards. They also say the V-chip doesn't work because no one knows of it and too lazy to look for it in the menu on the TV.

That a particular strategy is relatively ineffective (even just in someone’s mind) is not evidence that there is no problem.

I set ratings limits in my household’s TVs, and I have done (and continue to do) all I know how to do to limit traffic (content) through our router and via limits management of individual devices. It is extremely difficult if not impossible to achieve. I object rather strongly to people actively subverting my efforts to set limits for my kids in the name of ‘freedom.’
