PTI Cut Ins Between Spots on ESPN

Given that I use my DVR to watch "Pardon the Interruption" on ESPN weekday afternoons, I noticed something interesting this week that I thought was a mistake but seems to be a programming strategy..

In between the first and second ad in a cluster, the camera switches back to the PTI set and you hear about ten seconds of banter betwen the hosts, producers or whoever else is needed on set..the PTI logo remains in the lefthand corner of the picture..then the next ad starts..

Not sure if this is an experiment of some sort, since "Rome is Burning" is not doing this..can't tell if "Around The Horn" is doing it, since I rarely if ever can sit through it..

Any thoughts?
 
I've noticed this too..and its interesting, I'm usually working in the afternoon and don't tivo ATH or Jim Rome, but since PTI is ESPN's highest rated afternoon show (hence the Sportscenter segment), maybe ESPN's getting some ideas about how to keep the audience through the breaks
 
I think they do this twice (1st to 2nd break, 2nd to 3rd Break). It's a very clever strategy; as like many on this board, I cant always watch live. But it's nearly appointment listening/viewing for me (its on Sirius's ESPN channel 122, i think); definatly the best show on ESPN. Around the Horn is the red-headed stepchild of PTI.

Plus it may account for non-audio (bar/public place) viewership.

Its one of the few TV shows thats sounds like a radio show; i could listen as well as view and enjoy the show equally. It has the best features of local radio (personalities, fill in guests that model a morning/afternoon talk show's cast of characters)

SNL does this every live show and it's a genius move.
 
You can also argue that Olbermann does this too, during a couple of breaks on his MSNBC show. It's basically a preview of what's ahead, but delivered as only he can.
