Public embarrassment on public access

In the Late 90s, Kansas City ran the names and pictures of people arrested for prostitution (innocent until proven guilty) on the City Government channel (Ch2 on Time Warner)

Someone else on this forum mentioned a librarian reading the names and books of people who had overdue library books

A few years ago an X rated movie appeared on public access here in my town. Apparently someone in master control thought he was watching the movie off-air.

A local over the air station in my town had a similar incident. A local official had posed for Playboy and the production people were doing a news story on it. They were in the process of fuzzing out the naughty bits on the photographs and someone accidently (allegedly) pushed the wrong button and put the nekkid picture on the air during the morning soap operas. My mother saw it and nearly fell out. It was the talk of the town for several days.

I was the one who had first mentioned this. It was Winchester, VA's "Library Dataline with Marjorie Lewis" airing on cable 6 WINC back in the late 70's and early 80's. Looking back now what Lewis did wasn't really that big of a deal at the time since back in those days local radio stations at least in that part of the country would often read obits, the names of those who had filed personal bankruptcy ( I kid you not ), baby births and even who was a patient at the local hosptial LIVE on the radio. Example: "..AM 1400 WINC is reporting that the 10 year old son of John Doe at 123 South Main Street..Stevie was admitted to the hospital last night due to an ingrown toe nail...Little Stevie Doe who is in room 121 is expected to make a full recovery and should be released from the hosptial by Saturday.."

With the current health privacy laws, never mind those child sex offenders..ah there is no way one can do such a broadcast like that today.

In the late 70s, Cablevision on Long Island had a channel that would show lame jokes that kids sent in, along with their names, ages, and addresses.

I believe that was Channel 10 - their "spotlight" channel. They had an electronic bulletin board with WYNY-FM (97.1) playing underneath it when regular programming was not scheduled.
