Public Radio -- does it equal subsidized commercial radio?

The folks at WFDD do NOT use ratings. They are not allowed to use ratings because they don't subscribe to Arbitron. I also want to reiterate that they are unable to use "call to action" and they are not supposed to go beyond describing the underwriter's business. Language that is promotional or solicitous is prohibited in underwriting announcements.

And . . . I'm through discussing this subject. Any new word on who has bought WSJS?

How would you know that, unless you work there?

And we ALL know that people who don't subscribe, DON'T use ratings. I'm not saying they do, but that's really no proof. Anyone in the business has a story about a station that's not a subscriber using ratings on the street.

AllAccess reports: "The CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING grants $7.74 million total to 85 public radio stations in 28 states to help pay for the transition to HD RADIO. Since 2002, CPB has made similar grants to 540 public radio stations and 324 public TV stations from about $220 million set aside for the purpose by Congress."

Wow! That would go a long way to help commercial stations make the conversion!
