Pugs & Kelly

My radio goes off at the end of the Jagger Show (aka When the laughter stops) at about 10:30a and comes back on about 3:12 with Russ. Kelly whines too much.

I have to step-up and say I've actually always enjoyed P&K's show. Especially the HGD stuff. And 105.3's positioning of them ("Think of them as a married couple without the sex...") is spot-on. Part of it for me is generational and geographical. I'm only a few years older than the two of them and I grew up in the same part of the country, so listening to them is almost like re-connecting with some of the people I used to go to school with.

I've seen P&K bashed on this board many times and I've never understood it. I like 'em.

Just lost a lot of repect for Dan Potter, a very good broadcaster. Dan, that's great if you want to hear them talk about Chicago all the time. I'm not a Texas native, but I live here now and don't want to listen to a Chicago station. They will sell their souls (assuming they have souls) for any sponsor who throws a dime their way. Hey Pugs, how's that L.A. Weight Loss program you endorsed doing? Or Bally's Fitness personal training? And Kelly, how about those pills to make your breasts bigger? Oh, that's right, you finally had to get them surgically done. Pugs endorsing any alcohol or bar in town even though he was busted for DUI?

Have you noticed that every spot they do is the same - talk loud and fast, alternate lines between the two of them......hack radio that went out of fashion in the 70s. They got their jobs by suing Steve Dahl/WCKG/CBS when they were flunkies at the Chicago station. They were low level Producers (more like glorified interns) with no real on-air experience other than some very minimal weekend stuff. They sued CBS because they said Dahl recorded them without their permission (when they were ripping their boss behind his back) and aired the tapes. As part of the settlement they were given the Dallas job. In no way were they qualified. They don't make much money, and Gavin keeps them around because they will sell anything. Other than Russ the ratings are in the toilet, so you get 20 minute comercial breaks with cheap spots that they sell by promising the client an on-air endorsement by P&K.

You will see the lack of their talent clearly displayed when CBS pulls the plug on the format and they can't get jobs. They are terrible on their best day.

I'm by no means their target demographic, but I have always liked Jagger and Russ, but when Ron and Don left Dallas during middays, I quit listening during that time frame.

Having worked with Dan before, I haven't lost any respect for him.
He IS a good broadcaster.

Perhaps in a bizarre kind of way, I can understand he can relate to
P&K's Upper Midwest and "let's take a journey to Chicago" talk all
the time. Having married a Midwest gal, the area she was from,
your status in society was determined by which high school you
went to. Yep, HIGH SCHOOL! Ridiculous, but true. People
are born, live, and die there, and RARELY leave. So many
times when it comes to conversation, that's all they can talk about
(literally), because they haven't been anywhere else!

HOWEVER, I still think they stink. Figuratively, and
probably, literally. I can't imagine being stuck in that small
cramped studio with them for 4 hours, with their chain
smoking raspy hoarse voices breathing on me. Ugh! :-\
Throw in some deli sandwiches that they always have their
mouths stuffed with, and I'm sure the studio smells like
a bar, in the middle of a trash dump.

All of Kelly's personal, "in control", and intimacy problems
grows real old too. Whether it's true or not, the image she
conveys is that she'd be a real pill to have as a girlfriend,
fiance, or wife. No wonder she's divorced.

And poor Pug sounds like he's just a very lonely old drunk that
is too busy downing Tequila shots to find a girlfriend.

It's pretty sad when you think about it.

Sounds like Billy Joel would fit right in. Do any of the mics in that studio smell like a beer?

La da, de de da, de de da....

I for one have always enjoyed P&K and when in Dallas...I listen to Live 105.3 all day long...I like Jagger, like P&K and love the RMS show...but having recently moved to Houston I have now discovered the lack of an FM talk station sucks...yeah there is a sports one but that doesnt count. Shame CBS couldnt use an HD channel to let us listen to Russ in Houston... CBS does that with KROQ by rebroadcasting it in SD and I believe Phoenix on the HD2.

I think you just described their audience ;D

Finally, there are others that agree that Pugs and Kelly are Chicago hacks who via our legal system pollute the DFW air waves. I cannot help but feel that if Gavin wants to keep his staff at minimum wage, he will can Pugs and Kelly and drop in Dan and Tasos.
D&T have taken every opportunity to hone their craft.

I wonder if Pugs and Kelly hit the beach, do you think they will sue???
I would bet Kelly would be on the phone to Frenkel and Frenkel, then she would call HMS to see if they can lower her house payment.

What do you think?

Perhaps after a visit to Renaissance Laser Center she could get a gig at Jaguars Gold Club and Pugs could get a job at Majestic Liquor Store for the employee discount? ;D

I won't bash them as human beings because I wouldn'y know them if I tripped over them. When they were doing overnights from Chicago and I was doing mornings I would listen on the way in because I couldn't find anything else. I didn't think they were very good. Call it personal taste, but the self-indigence gets pretty boring after a very short while. I gave them a try when they frist got to Dallas and was no more impressed. I haven't listened since. I'll take y'alls word for it.

Also, before Kelly files her lawsuit. Do you think she will stop by the Booth Eye Care Center or will she go to her plastic surgeon for her last botox shot or another set (booby bags) of saline?

Inquiring minds want to know?????

Although I mainly listen to Sirrius, I still tune in to Jagger and P&K ocassionally at work. I still like P&K okay. I do admit Kelly gets on my nerves sometimes. She is the most boring story teller!! However, I find their "pop culture" chats very entertaining. They sound like my friends and I when we talk about tv shows, movies, music and other "pop culture". I'm 33 so I guess I'm close to thier age and grew up mainly on the east coast. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste I guess, because for the life of me, I don't understand why so many of you guys go gah gah over Russ Martin. I just don't "get it". That's the most boring show I've ever heard. Every show is the same. I just wrote it off long ago as "Texas" humor. I find his show unbearable.
