Pulse 87 coming back

To add, there are plenty of Internet stations out there that deserve a chance to be heard :).

Which is a good thing why Pulse is here because, perhaps now as more folks are turning to the Internet for hearing music streams, it will help lead the way for those that have been on the FM dial to explore all of the options out there and not just be "pigeonholed" to just one outlet, the way it was on the FM without competition.

Not saying people should no longer listen to FM. If there is an FM terrestrial station out there playing dance, then definitely support it. But explore ALL options. Sure listen to Pulse, but also listen to Electric FM, listen to Energy 98, listen to Fusion Radio Chicago, listen to iPartyRadio, listen to RadioDanz, listen to DI. I could go on and on with this but you get my point. Don't limit yourself to one place when you have a TON of options to go with, that's all. That's going to help people really appreciate what dance music has to offer. :)

From the Radio-Info home page

” Asked if there is a market for what he’s offering, Salkowitz says, “People will seek out the content they want. Remember, this is the format that we put on Power 106 (KPWR) in L.A. that beat Kiss FM, and in New York, when we started WQHT-FM (97.1), it overtook WHTZ Z-100 and WPLJ-FM (95.5).”
............................................................................................................................................................................................

Not exactly a true statement. The format that was on the old Hot 103/97 rode the wave of the freestyle explosion that happened in NY and L.A. during the late 80's/early 90's.That was the major difference between the old Hot 97 and Z100. You would play freestyle and the emerging house sound along with the big pop records of the time and that's why people tuned in. This is why Z100 was force to play freestyle music to counter their drop in the ratings.

Now,I'm not here to tell you how to run your station like others have done with dance stations on this board. However, your station slogan says "Cause NY won't stand for the same old music" and believe me,we freestyle fans are tired of hearing the same burnt out freestyle tracks on KTU. While I'm glad that your station is exposing new dance beats in the NY area and world wide, I and thousands of other freestyle fans have been slighted since your station fails to play new freestyle music.

Again, this is your station and you program it as you see it fit but there is a demand in NY for new freestyle music. Your station can definitely benefit from the club remotes from the varioius freestyle acts that still have a major following in the tri-state area. We would like to hear new freestyle and I'm not asking for the station to be a replica of the old Hot 97. I'm just asking for the inclusion of new quality freestyle among the other dance product that deserves to be heard in NY and world wide.

Morpheux,

You are better off spreading the word to the freestyle artists to submit SPANK NEW material to me over at Urban Latino Radio. Rest assured that if it sounds good and fits well into the formatics, it WILL get played. I don't cater to politics; I just want good music out there for our community to enjoy, treasure and pass along to future generations. I want to push things forward, not hold things back to how they were 25 years ago. No growth could ever happen that way.

TS,

My primary goal is to raise awareness that there is NEW freestyle being produced and much more importantly that there is an audience who clamors for NEW freestyle. This is the same audience that is listening to Hot 97,X 96.3,KTU or like many I know, have turned to newer technology.

The myth that freestyle is just 80's music has to be put to rest. Especially,at a time when new uptempo dance music in the mainstream is relying more on the electro sound, 1,2 step patterns and high hats that were so prevalent in freestyle.

I am simply looking for inclusion on dance stations in the US. Brazil has a strong freestyle community and so does Germany of all places because it's just another slice of the dance pie in those countries. That is my goal.

Then you have to go after whatever you can get. Go for the small victories and keep accumulating on them. You'll get the big victory soon enough :)

Since we only have 5 terrestrial stations playing dance (2 commercial), then you should really hit hard at any angle. If the Internet is where it is at, then you go there :). To that, I'm extending the olive branch to you. I am WILLING to play new freestyle (ask NV - Noel Valei, ask Rockell & Joe Zangie). But if none of the artists are submitting me files to play on my show, then there's very little I can do in that respect. Really, I'm just basically "sitting here" on the ready! :) But if no one's going to do it, while I certainly won't play stuff from 25 years ago, I'll just keep to what I am getting for today which is mainly house and electro.

Speaking of Pulse 87, a former Pulse personality, Ruby Tuesday, is going to be joining ElectricFM.com soon.
