Pulse 87 is back!

I'm just happy to be able to hear that crazy British lady voice-over again. I missed her. :D
I hear that British lady doing voiceovers on Hit 106's 5:00 mixshow. Really confused me the first time I heard her, I thought I was hallucinating that Pulse 87 was back.

I think DJ Unique hired her for his DJ VO's.  Emma's work is only heard when Unique mixes.

I liked Pulse, and I like Party... but many dance fans absolutely despised Party. The online Pulse seems to be playing a lot of the same songs I hear on Party and not all this new "dance" stuff. I've heard "rap crap" mixes of 50 cent, and I heard Pitbull in the one hour I tuned in... not to mention several Pop remixes too. :p

I'm confused. Am I missing something here? ???

Pulse 87 always played artists like Pitbull. It didn't play as much hip hop as Party, but it did play it.

Don't believe me? Then check out a couple of the Pulse 87 airchecks I posted a while ago that I recorded this summer

I believe you... I listened to Pulse well before they were pulled off the airwaves.  My above statement wasn't meant as a complaint, rather it was simply an inquiry into finding out why dance fans received Pulse much better than they did Party.  It seems to me using the arguments used against Party that 94.5 The Vibe would be boosted more by dance fans than Pulse.

I happen to like several kinds of music (including hip hop, rock, classic rock, jazz, classical, etc.), so the blend of hip hop and dance on Party doesn't bother me, nor do the music choices on Pulse's playlist.

Let's see how The Vibe does. In their first book since the booster went on the air, they got a 0.2. That is outpacing Pulse's growth rate so far.
Before the booster, there was no signal in Las Vegas itself, and an excellent signal for all the cactus in the Moapa Valley. Hence, the 0 ratings. The Vibe is the closest we have to pure dance.
The only ad on 94.5 The Vibe is for a bar. Before the booster, the only ad they had was for bail bonds. There really should be a lot more ads. Clubs should be eager to advertise on The Vibe for a much lower price than on the other stations, and the ads will be targeted to people who enjoy dance music. Since it's Vegas, even some adult advertising would not be out of place.
Their expenses are low. The 100kw stick (without the booster) in the middle of the Moapa Valley would not get a measurable audience with any format, I commend them for playing dance music and sticking with it for years.

The Vibe is the best example to show that dance can be successful commercially. If Mega Media wasn't in so much debt from before Pulse's launch, Pulse 87 would have been that example, since its ratings were on an increasing trend till they went bankrupt.

I'll answer. And no, you're not missing a thing! :)

Pulse was a beloved station that had a lot of financial problems. But to the common person tuning in, they didn't know that and just felt that the music selection was fantastic along with the personalities. I would have thought that the "radiothon" would have given a bit of a clue to the problems going on there but it really didn't. So when Pulse went off the air and Party came on, people thought that Party BOUGHT out Pulse, which wasn't the case, they just happened to have acquired the lease of the signal from Island Broadcasting (owners of 87.7, the frequency) since Pulse couldn't pay anymore.

Granted, Party over on Long Island had the blend of dance, rhythmic & hip-hop but they were TRYING. What racked my brain over the last few months were the barrages of complaints against PartyFM, unfairly, and that was mainly due to the hip-hop. I kept telling people to GIVE THINGS TIME and that the "big picture" might be that the simulcast of 87.7 and 105.3 would be "split" wheres 87.7 could concentrate more on dance while 105.3 can lean more rhythmic, to cover the parts Eastern Long Island that can't pull in the NYC stations that good. Yet, people complained and complained and were not all happy about things. It was the "ugly" side of dance fans that came out and did not make us, as a community, look good. People WANTED Party to be "Pulse" but it wasn't and never would be (rightfully...Party was its own brand and wasn't pretending to be anything else).

My BIG fear with Pulse coming back online is that people won't want to explore other options on the Internet that actually sound BETTER. And I'm not trying to angle the core aspect of the music here, just speaking in general. Another concern is that people WANT Pulse back on the FM and that if ANOTHER station down the road happened to appear on terrestrial (above 92), people would bash on that because it isn't Pulse.

You would think I'd actually be more excited about this return but I have my apprehensions.
