Pulse 87 listeners, have you noticed some weird commercials?

nd2023

Banned
"Do you want to own a brand new computer and improve your credit score at the same time". I hear this ad every other stopset since the summer. The company is Guaranteed Consumer Funding, and it's known for unethical business practices. I've heard the ad so much, I memorized every word of it.

Then there's an ad for a male enlargement product, yes the same ones they spam the ladies and gentlemen about. It's voiced by a lady, and they claim to also send a "measuring device" with every order. That ad plays every 3 stopsets.

And of course, the Major World ads are annoying, but it's good they're giving business to Mega Media.

I haven't heard ads like what I mentioned on other stations. I enjoy hearing the club and tanning salon ads on Pulse, as well as the other normal ads. It's hard to show support to the first 2 advertisers I mentioned. The only good thing is that Mega Media's getting money from them. I wish the ads did not sound like my spam folder.

For what it's worth, those weird ads are not exclusive to Pulse 87. The "measuring device" ad, for instance, airs regularly on K-Rock.

I've only heard these scam adds on the PLJ Internet stream. I didn't know they had made their way to broadcast radio.
Ugh. It's amazing...how long will it take for some idiot who got scammed by these adds to sue the stations that run them?

That computer ad is known as a "direct repsonse".

How it works is that these ads run on radio stations for "free".....but whatever sales that these companies make, they have to give a percentage to the radio station running such an ad. It's not as if the computer ad company "bought" ad time per se from Pulse; more as if Pulse runs those ads and the companies pay Pulse based on the referrals. The same goes for the "measuring device".

In the very beginning, Pulse only ran those type of ads.

"direct response"

They are also known as PI's (Personal Inquires). But you are correct about getting a percentage of the sale & that is only if there is a sale and then they wait for the commission check. Most stations only ran this type of advertising if they didn't have a full spot load. Guess we're getting to the bottom of the barrel.

Exactly...and radio really does seem to be reaching the bottom of the barrel, since I've also heard ads like this on 101.9 (both as RXP and as CD 101.9), on Fresh, on KTU, on Hot 97, even on Z100. Probably most if not all of the commercial stations have aired them at one time or another, some (K-Rock, RXP) more regularly than others, it seems.

Oh well, there's a sucker born every minute. Are the Major World ads also direct response? And how would the company know that the person buying the computer/pills heard it on Pulse if they don't mention a referral code in the ad?

No wonder I only hear those kinds of ads if I ever listen to Pulse 87 overnight.

Pulse airs the same ads on the air and online.

The Major World ads are paid ads.

And regarding the ad, when you place the order the customer service person asks where you have heard the ad from. Once you mention Pulse 87, it's logged in. On TV, you can get away with a refrerral code on the ad because you can see it. With radio, people will forget such details so it's easier just to say the radio station that you've tuned in to.

[EDIT]

I got a great idea...Pulse v2.0...just re-boot and start fresh, maybe yielding better results.

In all seriousness if you are trying to raise cash with hard on ads you are in a quagmire and usually where there is smoke there is fire.

Pulse should just re-invent itself...soon, before mega's burn rate kills the station and itself.

T2..you know I luv' bro but the when you talk about this station in the ways you do...so positive...I have to tell you that if the powers that be knew how to do things PROPERLY you would be in their mix already. Since that is not the case you are wasting your breath because their hull has already been hit by the financial iceberg.

And remember what I mentioned to you a few weeks ago in confidence, when that hits...whole new ballgame here in NYC.

To Tony above,

"The Major World ads are paid ads"

"National Ads" are usually placed by Advertising Agency's on mostly high rated stations in a market.

Let's say "Micky D's" wants to run an ad in NY, They may want to only go 10 deep, that would only be the 10 top
rated stations. This is where your ratings come into play.

Happy New Year to All!

Blast,

I feel your honest comment and I am not dis'in you at all....but I know more about advertising then most in the ad community..trust me on this one. When it comes to music, dj'ing or business I am the real deal...I could make Pulse profitable quite easily..but why bother...

...if you suck in business and your business model sucks as well you go out of business...simple as that.

Look at it this way if legacy companies are folding all over the place in this economy, how in the world do you expect something like that to succeed...you tell me?

I am not the end all expert here, however I know what works and what DOES NOT WORK based on many decades of good business practice. As I said before the station can be fixed, but why bother...keep in mind that many MAJOR stations with much less issues have folded usually by way of format change.

I think Mega was promised a Bugatti and was delivered a Yugo. If I was the decision maker there, heads would have rolled a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago. Mega should kill Pulse and go back to Russian programming..at least they were in the black I hear.

The spots are called PIs, for 'per inquiry'. More times than not, the toll-free number is exclusive to the station running the spot. When listeners call the number, the call is logged for that station and the station is paid for the inquiry.

So does Mega Media get paid every time someone calls the number to order a brand new computer or to enlarge a body part? Or only when sales are made?

I'd call it every day if that were the case.

;D I'm soo much happier now, my boyfriend's ----- is larger- Thanks to Pulse 87 and now I have the measuring device to prove it !!! I'm Very happy ! lol
