PULSE 87 NY (ONLINE ONLY) WEBSITE DEBUTS

Check it out here: http://www.pulse87ny.com/

The "Now Playing" songs played is done through Tune Genie; an updated 65 song playlist is there. The DJ's are mostly the same from the majority of Pulse 87.7's on-air incarnation.

There is a quasi-catch to the site - the addition of a paid membership "All Access VIP Club" - see here: http://www.pulse87ny.com/default.asp?pid=32545

The VIP Club allows access to the upgraded 96 kbps Dolby AAC+ audio stream, access to on-demand podcasts of mixshows, special offers for contests, clubs, tickets, help pick music, etc.

Cost is $50 for 1 year or $5 monthly or $30 for 6 months. They say the ca$h will help to defray the cost of streaming: bandwith, equipment, services & music performance royalties.

Someone can post the direct link for listening in my own player?

Sound quality is terrible b.t.w. Lot's of level issues. Sometimes music is louder than jingles or DJ's.

You're just the type of listener Pulse is hoping to sign up for their new "VIP Club"... ;D

This is not a bitrate issue, also with higher bitrate you have these sound quality/level issues. I hope they put some good working, well tweaked soundprocessing on the stream!

Nick's link is the same as the StreamTheWorld.com link; it's for a 32kbps "free" audio stream. You can copy/paste Nick's link into a WINAMP player & it'll play. It didn't work for me when trying the link on a Windows Media Player or a VLC Player (just me, or some other problem, like player/link compatibility?).

From Pulse87NY.com's website to "Listen Live": http://player.streamtheworld.com/liveplayer.php?CALLSIGN=PULSE87 (32 kbps)

Nick's link: http://208.80.52.190/PULSE87AACCMP3 (32 kbps)

If you do get the link to the 96k stream, please do NOT post it online. You need to subscribe and get a VIP membership in order to get the 96k stream. Remember that Joel's running Pulse 87 (and the Original Hot 97 too) as a labor of love, it's expensive to run an Internet station, especially at high bandwidth. iPartyRadio shut down last week because of the rising costs to run the station. We don't want to be responsible for Pulse 87 shutting down.

Besides, $5 a month is nothing, it's a small price to pay to keep your favorite station around. Thousands of people opened their wallets last July when Pulse begged for money, they got the money refunded, so let's hope that a small fraction of that donates to the new Pulse.

The direct link is the 32k stream. I will not post the direct link to the 96k stream or tell anyone. The 32k AAC stream actually sounds better than the 64k MP3 stream that was there from February-April, and better than the 64k WMA stream of WNYZ-LP last year. In fact, it sounds better than most HD stations.

Couldn't they put a password-protection shield in place on the 96k stream? i.e. When you connect, it will prompt for a username (associated with your VIP account) and a password.

I didn't think I'd ever post this axiom on a radio board, but: "Security through obscurity is no security at all."

It's funny how everyone bashed Live365 for charging listeners to isten commercial free. Now that Pulse is charging people to listen to a higher quality sound, it's fine.

Honestly, there are TONS of other stations (and this can be said for ANY format, not just dance) out there broadcasting 128K and up that AREN'T charging anyone to tune in!

I'll just leave it as......people have differing tastes for their music and for me, I want MORE than what Pulse is offering since we're talking the Internet here and not terrestrial FM. :)
