Pulse 87 on cable TV

nd2023

Banned
Can Mega Media get WNYZ on cable TV? Does the must-carry rule apply? That will add so many more listeners (or watchers). It could become as popular locally as MTV used to be when it played music.

Must-carry doesn't apply to LPTV's. And as much as I love Pulse, I can't see any cable companies adding it if WNYZ isn't going to show any actual visual programming.

But if Channel 6 shows the music videos and a studio cam, and visual ads, it is a full fledged TV channel. This is what The Box used to do.
In my cable system, the community access channel has a black screen and the audio of my high school radio station.

Yes, and cable companies still wouldn't be obligated to carry it. That, and the video portion of the signal is terrible. It's kind of ironic, but Mega Media is probably maximizing what it could get out of the frequency by running it as a radio station.

It would be pretty cool to have a live in-studio cam, and perhaps Mega Media will do that eventually. However I think it's pretty obvious that radio is their main focus. Few people watch over-the-air TV anymore, and even fewer will watch the LPTV's which will remain analog, after next year's switchover date, since many of the DTV converter boxes will not also receive analog signals.
