Pulse 87 set up a "path".
However, I only think a CERTAIN amount of influence will impact the future...but not TOTALLY. Pulse did have a good lean on the edgier dance side however they DID play rhythmic tracks in there as well, but on a 70/30 lean (70% dance/30% lean). Now granted in New York, because we are a "rhythmic" city here, if a station like Pulse were to come up again, that would be a good thing so as long as it had a powerful signal in a desirable dial location. And perhaps for cities that HAD dance stations (like Orlando, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles), you can use the Pulse scale in that regards. But for other cities, a station like Pulse could NOT work....not in the "map" that they laid out.
If you look at what 92.3 Now is doing in New York City, that's what I COULD see happen in other cities, just a bit of dance getting sprinkled in especially those that make the Billboard Hot 100 such as a Yolanda B Cool and an Edward Maya. And as long as exposure comes in, little by little, along with artists from the rhythmic side doing dance remixes then that really is the "short term" goal. Let's just get the exposure first and if people want more of it, then the natural "demand" will dictate that and THAT is what will push dance music further and perhaps more of the edgier artists that Pulse 87 and BPM (Sirius XM) had/has will get into the door somehow.
