Pulse 87

oh and another thing..

pulse comes in great in my apt but when i leave and head north on rt 9, i'm stuck listening to crackly regis and kelly. i really didn't care to hear that kelly ripa read about the grammy's last night. in south amboy, pulse is good, over the bridge both abc6 and pulse fight over each other, finally pulse is decent in woodbridge. i'm surprised at how large philly's signal is...

unfortunately, i don't think pulse will gain any decent amount of listeners down by neck of the woods. :(

I live in northwestern NJ near where Rt 206 meets I-80 and I heard something else on 87.7. It sounded like a simulcast of a TV news show. (at 6:30am)

As I was driving toward the city, I began to pick up Pulse 87 barely in Parsippany, and the signal got stronger in Totowa, Clifton, Rutherford, then got a bit iffy near the Lincoln Tunnel. In my office on the west side in the 50's decent reception.

It won't be a problem once Channel 6 in Philly goes digital, by around this time next year (if not earlier). Pulse, of course, as an LPTV station, will stay on the air after the switchover...for how much longer is anyone's guess at this point, but certainly their coverage area will improve without the interference from Philly.

i will be very happy when that time comes..... hearing cascada in between regis, well, just doesn't do it for me lol.

There will still be interference from Philly. WPVI is going digital on channel 6.

Are they actually going to broadcast using Channel 6 VHF though? Right now their digital broadcast is on UHF 64.

Additionally, I was under the impression that the digital signal won't cause analog interference, much the same way that you can't see any trace of digital TV broadcasts on analog broadcast TV without a converter.

Yes, they're going back to 6 for their digital signal. Channel 64 is outside the "core" (channels 2-51), and will be unavailable for broadcast use after 2/18/09. They could have negotiated an agreement to move to a different channel, since there are concerns about electrical interference to low-band VHF DTV signals, but they (and WRGB 6 in Schenectady) decided to try to stay put. We'll know in a year or so whether it was a good idea or not.

There's still plenty of signal there, just in a modulation mode that an analog receiver can't see. Up here in Rochester, we used to have regular summertime reception of WPBS-TV 16 from Watertown, 90 miles or so to the northeast. Then WXXI-DT signed on on channel 16 - and at least where I am, less than a mile from WXXI-DT, WPBS is history. (WPBS-DT on channel 41 comes in often enough, though.)

I dont care what people say about iPods, etc...

theres nothing like driving in your car and being suprised by hearing a song u like on the air... like Chris Lake's "Carry me away" on Pulse...

No doubt New York City has been missing this type of station for QUITE A LONG TIME!

I have been literally "going through the roof" hearing this excellent station (my head hurts! LOL)! I thank Joel Salkowitz and the Mega Media Group for having the guts in believing that a current based rhythmic style CHR CAN work out in NYC!

You definitely have won over the dance music community!

tony, are you okay over there? lol

this station is definitely worth listening to even during the crackly spots and philly's ch. 6... i had the wonderful privilege of listening to charles gibson in between jo-jo's too little too late haha

Myke, I've lost my mind and LOVING IT!!!! I still cannot believe that we finally have a rhythmic station BACK on the New York City dial the way it is SUPPOSED to be.....TODAY, CURRENT and EDGY! It is a VERY happy day for me and ALL of us dance fans!!!

Honestly, there hasn't been this sort of excitement regarding New York radio since the relaunch of WCBS-FM to oldies!

It was great to be able to hear "Rise Up" and "The Anthem" on NYC radio...among others.

Between the new stuff on Pulse 87 and the new rock that I hear on 101.9, I'm enjoying NYC radio a real helluva lot more than I was at this time last week.

Tony, I'm very happy for you. I've been reading your posts here and on the 'dentist' board for a couple of years now. Today's a good day indeed.

Channel Six Philadelphia audio is dominant here but through precise antenna manipulation I can pull in Pulse 87 with a decent signal. In this location (Morris County) the nearest audible signal on the dial...WBGO-88.3 is still oonsiderably stronger.

Okay, I think you might be veering into the realm of the delusional if you genuinely believe that! I'd wager that this station will have about the same or a slightly higher impact as Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles (I love Indie actually, but I recognize the limitations of an underground Alternative format).

I have been listening to the Pulse whenever I could today, and I am LOVING IT!!! I get KTU crystal clear, but I would rather listen to Pulse through the static. 87.7 has replaced my 103.5 preset (it was about time I took KTU off my presets). Just like how I was barely able to hear KTU when I lived very close to WPRB back when KTU was a dance station.
You can now hear dance music from Long Island to Delaware, and all along the NJ Turnpike if you know when to listen. Party 105/101.5 on the LIE, Pulse 87.7 from NYC to exit 11 on the Turnpike, 90.3 The Core (when there's a dance show Friday nights) from exit 11 to 7, Z88.9 (before 6 on weekdays) from exit 7A to 2, and Super 91.7 into Delaware.
Certainly among fans of dance music in New York, Pulse87 has just as great as an impact as WCBS.

Pulse going dance is just awesome news. I've been following this station ever since they started with their Russian programming. Oddly enough last Friday night for the first time I heard some "English" dance music and that was before the format change. I knew something dance was up but I didn't expect this!
Unfortunately I'm out of town until next week and haven't yet had the privilige of hearing Pulse but I look forward to it on my return!
This is really amazing news and it's about time that New York had a current dance station instead of sappy KTU!
New York is, at least for the US, the dance music capital.
Dance music has a massive following abroad and there is no reason it can't work in the US. I simply needs exposure and if it can't get it in New York it certainly won't elsewhere in the US.

Speaking of Indie 103.1 in LA, I think the format before the flip to Alternative was, lo and behold, Current Dance, and it failed miserably!
