Pulse Detected

After years of standing outside the Central Ave ICU, Nurse Jeff and I have detected a pulse at KT'R and are guardedly optimistic the patient may soon be removed from life support! The production value of the station shows creativity as well as energy. The hiring of Michael Anthony from KFYI will ignite a fire in a sleepy newsroom. The reformatting of both morning and afternoon drive give listeners a reason for hanging around for more than the traffic. And Gaydos at night sure beats the monotony of Coast to Coast AM. We must caution KT'R fans that this assessment is conditioned upon the support given the patient by the Men In Secret Underwear, and the second retirement of Pat McMahon. However the Middle Eastern Men of The Media are the first to pronounce KT'R has turned the corner!

TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES! TAZ RULES!

The news wheels have been sounding smooth, running at a clipped pace.
Mike Anthony is a dynamo who could light a fire and inspire the news team.
Still need hosts we want to tune in to...
Pat will interview Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Don Stapley tomorrow (Friday) @ 9 AM about Sandra Dowling, to balance the issue. Will Pat progress to a 3-call program?

Totally Agree. I think it started with The Mexican March. They finally woke up. I was listening the other day and thought they actually sounded like a big city news station. KFYI finally has a competitor.

Obviously someone passed along our posting "2 Call Pat" and he got the message. Calls galore and not a lot of shilling. Nurse Jeff thinks McMahon's love affair with Sandra Dowling is on the rocks, but I disagree. Like so many other libs, McMahon will tax himself poor as long as the money goes to the chull-rin ::)

The number of calls doubled to 4...Whoopee... ;) I agree with you that despite evidence to the contrary, Pat wanted to retain his emotional attachment to an archaic concept. Seems to be his M.O., no? How 'bout that McMahon group? Even he kidded about how every guest was there because he/she was a "former" something... At least none was employed at the station and simply came in a little early to do the show... Is this "nostalgia" tactic working for the legendary 620? Legend City was mentioned this past week--Did it not close down three decades ago? (No offense at all directed to our fellow poster who uses that monicker.. :-*) A native, I can enjoy the nostalgia--but this city is now #5 in the nation, meaning new folks who cannot relate to the past have to be lured in as listeners...

I was driving home from San Diego (btw, Yuma talk radio on a Saturday is scary, they were doing an on air swap meet), and I tuned to KTAR after what seemed like an endless Paul Harvey they did the Computer show, all 6 or 7 minutes of it. What a monumental waste of time, they killed a good 25% of their time just playing their intro and music, then into the Diamondbacks show.

Lame.

Lame? How 'bout a traffic reporter with more energy and less mistakes than a KT'R newsreader? Nurse Jeff and I caught Saturday morning with Danni Sullivan doing the traffic/weather updates every 10 minutes on the 9s (or is that every 9 minutes on the tens?) Talk about having her stuff together and NOT ONE SINGLE MISTAKE. Betcha can't say that about most KT'R weekend newsreaders. Maybe the new N.D. will listen to his station on the weekends as well...the previous N.D.s, P.D.s and G.M.s sure didn't. ??? Sullivan sounded so good, we almost forgot how painful it was to listen to Dewey Hopper!

Closed circuit for the new KT'R PDISU:

"Traffic on the nines" really should be renamed "traffic on the eights."

Deputy Dan alone can eat up a minute, add Mr. Ed to that and you've used
at least 1:20, so there's no way you can do the "9s" and hit the TOH or
whatever BOH mark is on your news wheel hot clock.

I cringe everytime Ned or Connie says "it's coming up on 6:29, now to the
(insert sponsor's name here) traffic plane..." and it's really 6:28:12.

Yes, my watch is atomic, and with no IBOC. Speaking of @#$% IBOC,
maybe a closed circuit for the KT'R CE is also in order here.

Please check your IBOC splatter, it's my perception it's going beyond the
second adjacent. The past few Saturdays about 11:45am, besides the
IBOC hash on 600 (and 640), I've detected noise on 590, and even on
580 slamming against and weakening KSAZ Marana--this becomes evident
around the I-10 and SR143 interchange.

55/FYI has never affected 580 as their 570 hash stays put, and before KT'R
turned on its ICRAP, oops I mean IBOC, the Giant 580 was always good even
within a mile of Tower Plaza. Now I can't hear Dancin' Danny Babich through
all the noise!
